Tom Sturridge as Carl Walters in “3 Way Junction”, dir. Juergen Bollmeyer (2018) I admit the movie is not the most clever storywise. Frustrated architect flees from his depressing job to a short holiday in Namibia to reflect on his life choices and gets stranded in the desert, based on a real story. I thought it pretty naive - to put it nicely - for Carl to let himself be dropped off at a road crossing in the middle of nowhere in the Namib on the vague possibility of getting a lift by a passing car, without a sufficient supply of food and water. But shit happens and Tom is able to transport all the feelings that Carl is going through without dialogue or voice over, just with his body language, going from bored to annoyed to frustrated to worried to petrified to resigned to apathetic to survival instinct kicking in. And he suffers so convincingly that you´re hurting alongside him, so be sure to have a big bottle of water nearby when watching it...😉 And i don´t know how he manages to be this gorgeous even when dehydrated and sunburned and covered in sweat and dust and mud - but he is... 🥵
