USWNT 30 Days Challenge - Day 14: Favourite NWSL Team

“By any other name” - Portland Thorns

After the World Cup and the love at first sight with the USWNT, I obviously got into the NWSL and the first game I watched was Portland Thorns vs Utah Royals, when the Champions returned. I actually liked both teams but Portland had something (no, I’m not talking about Tobin ... not only about Tobin) that literally overwhelmed me, I felt a connection with that team that amazed me. And the more I watched them play, the more I learned about their history and their spirit, the more I fell in love with them. In the voice-over from the video of the trip to the Oregon Coast, Mark Parsons says "And whatever it is it's coming our way, we're ready to do it together" and I think this is probably what I love most of this team, they’re like a tribe, or the Musketeers, “all for one and one for all”, they win big or lose bad but they do it together, side by side. I love that Portland Thorns is not just a team, it’s actually a community that involves players, fans and city, Riveters are such a fundamental part of this team, they don’t just support players, they believe in them, no matter what, unconditionally. There’s something magical about Portland Thorns, when I watch a game and I see Providence Park under the blinding sun that makes the green field so bright, I really feel the essence of football, even if I am on the other side of the screen (and the Ocean!). During the last trades, Portland broke my heart badly but it’s MY team and I trust it. By any other name ...

USWNT 30 Days Challenge - Day 9: Favourite World Cup Moment

Okay, I challenge you to choose just ONE moment, c’mon ... So I’ve chosen 4!

Tobin’s goal vs Sweden - I don’t care they don’t give her the credit for the goal, it’s HER GOAL and it’s amazing! I love her passion, I love her fire, she is and will always be a MAESTRO, a genius, an artist of football! I’m in awe of her!

Christen’s goal vs England - Honestly, it’s poetic! Her starting in the semi-final, the precision of the header, the dedication (Tobin on her knees somewhere), that goal was so beautiful and so important for her, it makes me cry every time I see it!

Queen Uncle Naeher cancels England saving the penalty - That game is like a movie to me, a penalty on the 86th minute, when USA leads for 2-1, on a World Cup Semi-Final! Just imagine the pressure Uncle felt, it’s mind-blowing! But our GK is the greatest so she saved the penalty and the entire humanity! That’s EPIC!

THE HUG - This is the only celebration moment I’ve chosen (because this post would have been endless otherwise) and it kills me every time! The way Tobin runs straight to Christen with the sweetest smile on her face, the way Christen waits for her and holds her tight, it’s so perfect! I love that Allie passes by, touches them gently and then leaves them alone!

USWNT 30 Days Challenge - Day 12: Best Smile

Hobin Teeth - Honestly, people, this woman smiles with her soul, an angel gets the wings every time she laughs, she has the most genuine smile I’ve ever seen, I don’t know her personally but I can bet it’s pretty difficult being mad at her, I would forgive her even the mistakes she hasn’t done yet!

Defender: Becky Sauerbrunn & Crystal Dunn - I can’t choose, those two are legends, I would be scared to face them if I were a forward, honestly ...

Midfielder: The Artist, Tobin Powell Heath - “No look goal, of course she did! Tobin Heath, everybody, doesn’t even have to look to score”

Forward: CHRISTEN PRESS WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!! - I can’t imagine a USWNT without Christen Press as starter.

USWNT 30 Days Challenge - Day 11: Coolest Tattoo

This was a fun one! Obviously choosing among Ash’s Tattoos was pretty impossible, so I had to pick at least 3 of her creations!

From Ashlyn: the woman’s face near to the Eiffel Tower, in honor of the World cup, it’s SO noir, I can almost hear the man playing sax in the streets! / The goalkeeper, inspired by the first photo ever taken of a GK (I have desperately tried to find the original photo and the name of the goalie but I failed!) / The owl who overhangs the man under the umbrella, so mysterious, so dark! 

Ali’s quote: I found out it means “One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes”

Jessica’s Bible verse: there’s the name Jeremiah above it (her son’s name) and the verse (from the prophet also named Jeremiah) says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” - I surely condemn some of Jessica’s friendships but I strongly believe (it’s obviously an opinion in which I hope I’m right) she doesn’t share any of her friend’s ideas, she seems to have a nice relationship with everyone on the team and she openly supports all of them (she’s also commenting like EVERY IG POST of every teammate!). But other than that, for what I see and know, I THINK she’s a wonderful mother, Jeremiah is basically her other half, wherever she goes, he’s with her, he’s the number 1 priority of her life and I know this should be a “normal” mother’s behaviour but from what I see, she’s doing all the work by herself (I don’t see a father in this child’s life, do you?) so I honestly admire her. I really think she’s nothing like her ignorant friend.

USWNT 30 Days Challenge - Day 8: Most Underrated Player Adrianna “AD”- “She’s Our Keeper” Franch

I’ve watched her playing with the Thorns and I really believe she deserves more space and visibility on the National Team! In the game vs Japan she was always ready despite having played very few minutes on the USWNT!

USWNT 30 Days Challenge - Day 15: Player not on USWNT that will become a star 

Margaret “Midge” Purce

I totally believe Midge can be the future of USWNT and I’d really like to see her again on the NT soon because she has a phenomenal talent that can only grow and improve. I’ve seen her playing with the Thorns (I miss her!!) and I’ve also seen how versatile she can be on the USWNT, she’s a great forward but she can reinvent herself easily.

USWNT 30 Days Challenge - Day 13: Players you wish were American 

As my friend @iampenlau said, USWNT is more than perfect as it is and I would never change anything, so to answer to this day of the challenge I’ve actually thought of the players I’d very much like to see playing with the USWNT, for different reasons.

Nadia Nadim - Nadia is actually my favourite player beyond the USA border, I love her every day more and I would do anything to see her play with Tobin Heath again. Nadia is a phenomenal striker and I think she would be spectacular between Chris & Tobin as wingers.

Andrine Hegerberg - Andrine (and Ada) totally deserves a better National Team. She has an extraordinary potential that I believe isn’t fully exploited, USWNT would allow her to express her great ability with a different work and play.

The Thorns Aussies - Yeah, they will always be Thorns to me!! Hayley Raso, Caitlin Foord and Ellie Carpenter would be great assets for the USWNT, they share the same adorable madness and they are basically family with Lindsey & Sonny!
