THREE-HUNDRED WORD SNIPPET THURSDAYS
Title: The Makings of a Nun in the Eye of Michael Words: 297 Warnings: Discussion of menstrual cycles and mentions of female reproductive organs and system. THIS WORK IS A WORK IN PROGRESS.
Context/Summary: Nicholas and Simela are being mentored by their respective teachers in the Eye of Michael, Chapel (Nicholas) and Mirofora (Simela). They are both young adolescents here. The period pain that Simela experiences is intense and this is thanks to the experiments, serum infusions and training. It is so painful, that she's fainted during a training session. Again.
Simela and Nicholas fell silent for a moment. They both knew all too well what it was like, to be forced to train to the bone in the firing range and training room only to collapse from the pain and exhaustion of trying to exceed the limits of their bodies. To be physically present in the moment while bearing the pain and discomfort of the experiments and serum infusions being conducted on them whilst trying to lay still on the operating table, but be mentally elsewhere. "Hey, Simela, what’s a 'period' anyway?" Nicholas asked, tilting his head as he leaned back in his chair and rested his hands in his lap. Simela sighed, careful to not move too much as she shifted beneath the sheets of white clinical linen to make herself comfortable. "Wait, don’t you know from your theory lessons on human biology? Well, if you wanna know... Urgh..." She winced, "...It's the regular discharge of blood and mucosal tissue from the inner lining of the uterus through the… through the vagina…” Simela turned away from Nicholas, her cheeks lightly burning with embarrassment upon realisation of the words she used to explain a natural biological function. ‘Why did he want to know about periods anyway?’ She thought. ‘Why does he care? He's just a boy…’ "Uhuh, I see." Nicholas nodded as he scratched the back of his head. "...Is it supposed to be so painful that it puts you in the infirmary every time you get it?" Simela whipped her head towards Nicholas at his question, she wasn’t quite sure herself. She honestly thought that the periods she was experiencing were the norm. She never knew better or otherwise. "You know what Nico? I really don't know..." She replied, staring blankly up at the white ceiling. Divider credit.
