Yesterday was supposed to be day 1, but I’ve pushed it back to today since I broke down and had tomato soup for dinner last night. All day I fought urges, as I first left my driveway, armed with my juice and water, I had the thought “It’s day one, it wouldn’t matter if I had a sausage croissant for breakfast, no one would know.” Fat kid thoughts. I would know. As I drove past Donut Palace, I could’t even look at it. I made it through the day drinking only juices, but it was cold when I got home, and no juice was made, so I popped open the tomato soup. Yeah, it’s not junk food, but it’s not part of the plan, so to make my point (to myself) that no cheating is good cheating, even when it’s 90 calories of warm, delicious puréed tomatoes, I’ve decided today is officially day one. Ugh.
Yesterday was rough. If I had to chose, I’d say day one is the hardest, especially when you’re trying to “go cold turkey”. I mean, I was eating cookies and pizza pockets the day before. It’s hard to cut yourself off from that. I would say my plan wan terrible. I should have eased myself into this, gone vegan for a couple months. I should have made myself some delicious cabbage soup, had some salads, worked on shrinking my stomach a little. In true procrastinator fashion, that wasn’t the road I took, now I’m here and I’m paying for it. Headaches, seemingly intolerable hunger pangs, complete depletion of energy; emotions ran high, or rather, incredibly low as I spent my New Years in bed watching “Friends” on Netflix, envying every cup of coffee and morsel of “real food” that was shown.
It’s past noon and we’re not out of bed yet… can’t wait to get the detox over and get some energy back.
