The astounding Horn-Headed Weevil, Cerocranus extremus, claims the 7th slot of the 30 Days of Weevils art challenge!

The distinct "horn" this weevil's named for is actually a build up of waxy secretions from its thorax! Though this horn can grow to dramatic heights, it doesn't appear to hinder its movement or flight. Having only been sighted in forests of New Caledonia, there's not much known about this particular weevil -- but it leaves quite an impression all the same!

Day 4 of the 30 Days of Weevils challenge spotlights the Beautiful Clown Weevil (Eudiagogus pulcher)!

This aptly-named weevil - with lovely black spots and peachy iridescence - is native to North America. Members of their genus, Eudiagogus, are also called sesbania clown weevils because they feed on Sesbania pea plants.

The wonderfully wacky Leptopius gladiator weevil takes the third slot in the 30 Days of Weevils challenge!

Besides the fact they can be found in Australia, there's not a ton of information available on this particular species. Members of the genus Leptopius are often called "wattle pigs" due to their short rostra and presence on "wattles" (Acacia plants)! This tumblr post goes more into depth about these interesting weevils :^)

For the first day of the 30 Days of Weevils challenge started by @the-named-anon, I illustrated the spectacular Giraffe Weevil (Trachelophorus giraffa)!

With such a long neck, it's not hard to see why this weevil earned its namesake! Males typically have necks that are over twice the length of their female counterparts. Like others of their family (Attelabidae), their long neck is thought to assist in building nests or fighting rivals. This tiny species is endemic to Madagascar, with its conservation status listed as Near Threatened.

Platyaspistes venustus, also called the Blue and Yellow Broad-Nosed Weevil, kicks off Day 8 of the 30 Days of Weevils art challenge!

Like other broad-nosed weevils, this weevil is characterized by a scar on the tip of its rostrum, left over from mandibular processes that fall off in its adult life. Vibrant colors stripe its elytra, making it a beautiful sight in its native South American environment!
