Just finished up a sequels rewatch and for some reason I can’t stop thinking about C3P0? That poor droid has had his memory wiped at least twice (and restored at least once) but at the same time he witnessed so much - like he was quite literally created by Anakin, fought in the clone wars, acted as a personal butler to Padme, watched his creator get completely consumed by the dark side, gets purchased by Uncle Owen and inadvertently gets Luke involved with the rebellion; thereby eventually defeating the empire. He (and R2) have been through it!
Anyway there’s a scene in Rise of Skywalker where the crew is talking about the Sith language and 3PO tells everyone that while he can read it, he cannot repeat any of it with his programming that was mandated by the senate. Do you think 3P0 had to testify before the New Republic in hearings about Vader?
1. No wonder he invented anxiety for droids
2. Genuine question, what were he and R2 up to during the 20 or so years of total empire regime? Surely the New Republic would have had questions.
3. Now thinking about all of this through the lens of R2 and how he didn’t have the luxury of getting his memory wiped after the events of Revenge of the Sith. He saw his master crumble and turn evil, he watched him hurt his wife, he watched her die so that her and Anakin’s children could live, he transported the Death Star plans and delivered Leia’s message to Obi Wan, he was in the cockpit with Luke at the destruction of the Death Star, went to Degobah to help Luke become a Jedi, did literally everything he could to destroy the empire. Like damn, the stories he’d tell.
