Happy Hanukkah! I have gotten to play dreidel with 7 friends over the course of the first 3 days. Truly a blesséd week so far. Only 2 of these friends were themselves Jewish. I got to teach these 5 other friends how to play and they really enjoyed themselves (even if one of my friends couldn’t quite ever get the spinning technique). They all watched while I lit the candles each night and read the Hebrew prayers plus English translations. They were all super respectful, cool, and happy to observe/participate. With my friend on the 2nd night and my friend on the 3rd night, I gave each the “honor” of choosing which color candles would go in which slots. And they seemed to really like this. All this to say, it is great and heartwarming to see allies to Jews and they are still very much out there, even if some of my friends miss the mark sometimes. At least for my friends, their heart is in the right place and I hope you find that with your friends, Jewish and goyische too!
