4/30/2016. Today marks the 41st Anniversary of Black April. When the U.S. officially pulled out of the war, they left my people to fend for themselves. It's a dark history, one that has been kept out of American history books. Still to this day, this affects people of the Southeast Asian community. So here's to the untold stories of endless searching for recyclables as a way of living, to all the youth in juvenile detention due to lack of resources, role models, cultural dissonance, & loss of hope, to the constant moving of homes, to the domestic violence & gambling & hopeless alcoholics, to the graveyard shift janitors, to all of the first generation college students trying to pave a better path for their families, to those who continue to be victims of Agent Orange & the 2.5 million tons of bombs dropped in the neutral country of Laos, to the victims of the Khmer Rouge, to those who didnt survive the journey when seeking reuge, to my parents & to my grandparents, to those whose resilient stories continue to go unacknowledged. I see you. I hear you. I stand with you. I shout for you. I fight for you. #BlackApril #41yearsofSilence #SEAus #HearUs #KnowYourRoots #RememberWhereYouCameFrom
