firstly he’s traded away from jack and the only team he’s ever played with to go to the worst team in the league. then on top of that not only is van the worst it’s also the team quinn captained only to leave for minny so like the fans do Not like the hughes name. elias is there who’s known luke for YEARS cause of quinn but obvi quinn & him don’t talk anymore since we all know that trade was lowkey a whole collapse of personal shit but elias is now captaining quinns baby brother who is Pissed he’s even there

I need level 10 crash out from luke, going to clubs in van and getting absolutely obliterated only to play a game the next day, he’s posted all over insta & twitter doing shit he should not be doing, he’s talking to his coach and manger like he’s a teenager again just swearing and not listening and being a bad ass kid, refusing to do half the shit they tell him to and running his own plays, elias is about to kill him on live tv every fucking game, fans either hate him or love him (most hate him tbh)
but he’s lowkey carrying and they’re winning sooooooo…..
and god forbid someone from the opposing team pisses him off mid game- elias genuinely starts tweaking on the other team but not cause he’s mad at them but cause he’s like “why would you say that?!! are you fucking stupid?? do you not value your life??” meanwhile lukes on xgames mode and the rest of the team are clutching their pearls hoping he doesn’t turn all that anger on THEM cause then everyone’s fucked
thinking about luke seeing placks of quinn everuday at the rink… like he was captain and won a norris with them… they surely have him pinned up somewhere like the hallway and luke has to walk past it every single day. has to see his face and the c on his uniform and how much more successful he is elias considers taping over them just so luke stops tweaking anytime he has to go in that hallway for more than five seconds
they start calling him hound dog hughes cause he spends every game hogging the fucking puck and firing anything he can and making the other team want to choke him out
he doesn’t engage in chirping much because he’s honestly too focused on the game but if someone starts yapping in his ear he’ll just start playing harder and then acting like a dick the second he scores. anytime they play the panthers everyone and their mother knows it’ll be an interesting watch just bc luke has beef with matt & brady and they always piss him off on purpose

everyone in vancouver is a little pissy about it because great, we already had one of these hughes failures ruin us, now we have another? yeah, no one is very fond of this trade. elias refuses to talk to quinn, and he's... not really a fan of this whole luke thing either. he doesn't want to have to deal with his ex-captain's baby brother.
luke is going fucking insane the second he touches down in van. drinking, partying, fucking random people. he's going viral online because of what he's doing. the nucks management is going crazy over what to do about this messy non-teenage teenage boy ruining their image!!! he's not even playing how they're telling him too, and elias is this far 🤏 from choking luke out at center ice for lipping off to him for the millionth time. the worst part is that he can't really complain, because luke is really improving their game as a team...
luke is just... so disrespectful, really. he's rude to everyone, he's loud, and the only opinion that matters to him is his own. if anyone, including opposing players and his own teammates, DARE to oppose him, he gets mean. the rest of the team is terrified because if they say anything slightly out of line, they're getting screamed at without a doubt. at least he hasn't tried to physically fight one of them yet.........?
luke can't handle knowing that quinn is so much better than him. every plaque feels like a reminder that he's never been as good as his older brothers. it makes him feel sick, really. no one has ever appreciated luke half as much as quinn or jack. while they don't get along, elias does in fact consider that covering them may help luke not be. batshit fucking crazy?
luke being so selfish, just an absolute puck-hog, refusing to pass to his teammates even if they have the potential of gaining a goal. he's so stuck on trying to prove himself that the thought doesn't even cross his mind.
everyone knows that playing the panthers will be a bit scary for... well, mostly for the panthers, really, because that's when luke is at his breaking point. he can't help how mad he gets with the tkafuck brothers, they're the most annoying dickheads known to man.
luke is so mad during intermissions that he needs to sit down with elias and just... be near him. there's something weirdly calming about getting to sit down next to your captain and be called by your actual name instead of being treated like a violent, bad dog. it's like a trade between the two of them; elias gets to feel like a teenager again, and luke gets to feel wanted. he'll call luke his puppy on occasion, but... surely that's normal, luke thinks
elias hardly realizes he's doing it. he doesn't realize that when he's asking luke to come to his room, that's crossing a line. he doesn't realize putting a hand on his thigh and telling luke to be a good boy for him for once, that's crossing even more lines. doesn't seem to think it's wrong to be kissing his new teammate and gently guiding him to lay flat for him. however, he'll admit he likes the way luke whines under him and grips his shoulders
elias knows that they're brothers, that of course they're similar, but it's... shocking, to say the least. they practically walk and talk just the same, but there's still subtle differences. the differences are what elias really comes to love about luke. how despite his similarities to quinn and even to jack, he's his own person. he has his own personal little quirks that he doesn't hide. that he can't hide, like the look of pure admiration and respect in his eyes when he looks at his captain even outside of the room. he holds him so highly that elias is fearful of messing up in even the slightest
elias finally gets luke on board with fully being his dog. it takes a lot, and it's not exactly pretty at first, but he finds that luke has settled into his role quite nicely a good half of the season in. he's becoming more and more of a guard dog too, because the second someone dares to challenge HIS captain HIS owner HIS master, luke is ready to bite. he growls like a goddamn dog if it gets bad enough
everyone is afraid of luke except for elias... and even then sometimes he gets a little weirded out by his behavior 😭
