Blue

My visual story word was "blue." I found this word interesting because, other than the sky, flowers, and some birds, there is not a lot of blue in nature. So, I turned to the night lights and the city. The city gives off an electric blue feel. My photos are from Downtown Phoenix and Downtown Tempe. I looked for the blue in the night, and when I edited it, I tried to bring attention to this color. There are so many shades of blue, and I wanted to show these shades in my project. Sometimes you may consider these shades to be more of a purple or green, but I think that is the beauty of blue; you can find it in so many different colors. I picked music that would help highlight this electric blue feel. Next time you are walking around the city at night, look for the blue. -Alexia Stanbridge

The Churchill in Downtown

Click the link above! This gif is so fun! I feel like it is an advertisement for the Churchill right in Downtown Phoenix. The gif starts with a mixed image of Churchill and the city, but it is completely black and white. The next image is road lines that lead you to the Churchill. Next, everything lights up, and the filter with the natural colors from the lights of the night comes out. The natural color included a lot of pinks, which surprised me. The last image is blue. This is a slight reference to my upcoming project. My word is "blue," so I wanted to add a little bit of that at the end. I tinted the whole picture blue. Lastly, I made the gif very fast because I wanted it to feel electric with the lights and leading lines. I am super happy with how it turned out! -Alexia Stanbridge

Man in the mirror

These pictures were taken during the Welcome Reception for the Humphrey Fellows in the First Amendment Forum of Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Arizona State University. The first picture was taken at a wide angle while the second one was zoomed in to get a close-up shot. I blended both pictures at opacity of 40% to mirror the close-up shot. I avoided the filters to maintain the mirrored photo. - Johnson Mayamba

The Beauty of Camping

These are both pictures of my recent trip to Arizona with my husband. For Labor Day weekend, we camped near Ashurst Lake in a meadow filled with yellow flowers. We pitched our tent next to a tree and made a fire for the night. The small image of the left is the meadow that we stayed woke up to. I used this for the top layer. On Labor Day, we woke up and relaxed. After we ate breakfast, we packed up and headed for Sedona. In Sedona, we did the most beautiful hike that followed along a river. There were patches of deep spots where you could swim. The small image on the right is of the river. I blended the two images, with the top layer at 46% opacity. Then I used the Luminosity layer and tinted it slightly blue. I think the final product really reflected our trip as a whole. -Alexia Stanbridge

It Feels Unreal!

We are back to school in person!!! However, a lot is not the same. We are okay with it! Most of us do not like masks, but it is better than being home and alone. After being away from the school for so long, it does not feel real being back. It feels fake. The busyness came back all at once, so many of us have not had a chance to take it in. We feel like school could go back online any second, so we are skeptical about feeling too much excitement. Although, we are still happy to be here. This image portrays all of these things. The people are coming out of the building feeling happy. You can tell this even through their masks, by looking at their eyes. The picture looks slightly like a comic book or cartoon. It shows that we feel like it is a dream. It feels unreal. -Alexia Stanbridge

Journalism Evolves

Journalism has evolved, over time. This sequence shows a representation of how it has evolved. This is the first amendment forum in the Walter Cronkite building. Across the United States, well-known Journalism Schools have not evolved. They look like the first picture. They are old and care only about print journalism. However, journalism is evolving! People want more out of the news. They want visuals, words, interactiveness, and more! That is why multimedia journalism is so popular. I believe it is the future! The Cronkite School has done a great job evolving with the times and keeping journalism alive. That is what makes this school one of the best. I think journalism as a whole has not been great at keeping up with the times, but the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism has. I love being part of this school. -Alexia Stanbridge
