It’s possible to view raw images on a tumblr by changing the resolution (the number before the file extension) to raw . This only works when accessing the file directly. This is quite interesting, as by default Tumblr only offers up to 1280 using it’s API/most common ways of accessing. So if store your images somewhere (say a booru) you might want to recheck all those images to see if they can’t be in a higher resolution.

If you use shimmie2 (yes I know it’s the most unoptimized piece of shit out there, but you can install it on any webserver, and as long as you are the only one accessing it, you won’t even see the poor optimization), you can replace images on the individual image view. Saves you the trouble of having to reupload and retag the image. Still, I can imagine this will take quite a bit of work, especially for those with large images.

At the moment this goes for all images hosted on tumblr. Just go to the direct URL and change 1280 to raw (or whatever number is before the extension).

Of course don’t steal art from an artist. Always source back to the original artist if you post in a public booru. Practically every booru offers a source field nowadays. Abide by DNP-list (something EVERY public booru offers to prevent the large amount of slapfights that would ensue otherwise) and abide by the rules the booru has.

If you use TumblThree to archive a tumblr, download the latest version (https://github.com/johanneszab/TumblThree/releases/latest) as it has support for the new RAW size already.
