DIY Wireless Zombie Bait

So hopefully by now you've seen today's video, but here's the code and information you'll need to set it up yourself!  And for those who don't know what this is, it's a wireless zombie bait/distractor.  When you move the switch to a different position, the Emic2 (text to speech module) in the stuffed animal says stuff to distract zombies!

This one's a bit more complex.  We have connections from the Emic2 to the Propeller and to the speaker.  Then we have connections going from the LED pin on the propeller to the LED array, but through some 2n3904 action.  I originally thought that was for amplification, but I think it's actually so that when the text is spoken, the LED flashes accordingly.

So when you run the code, you should get 5 different statements depending on which direction the joystick is pointed in :)

Interfacing the Serial LCD and 5-position Switch

So I've had experience getting the Serial LCD and 5-position Switch working in a basic manner based on learn.parallax.com.  But now I want to get them to work together!

So I have them hooked up onto the PropBOE based on the following "principles"

The only thing I did different was because the Serial LCD is interfacing with pin 0, I moved all of the pins up 1 for the switch's connections.  So the wire originally connecting pin 0 to the switch would now be connected to pin 1, 1 became 2, 2 to 3, and so on.

I combined the LCD and the Switch code from the Kickstarts and did a little pruning.  When I ran the program, both lines on the LCD had the same direction of the switch, and the lettering wouldn't clear off properly.  So if I had pressed:

UP --> RIGHT--> DOWN --> UP ... The screen would look like this:

UP

RIGHT

RIGHT

DOWNT

DOWNT

UPWNT

UPWNT

And when I made it so that text would clear up, I guess I used the "12" command code which just made it so that as soon as I let go of the switch, the direction disappeared from the screen.

And well then I started thinking about how it was most likely my code that was the issue and so I tried changing up WHEN different things happen.  Instead of doing something after the switch's direction was displayed, I decided to do it before.

So this code sees whether the switch has been pressed to a particular position, then clears the screen, and displays the direction!  And it works!

Parallax's 5-position Switch (#28015)

So another easy peripheral to look at is Parallax's 5-position switch (#27801) which allows your project to know how to read up, left, right, down, and center (click).

So even though I was working on BST (on the mac), I could still use the PST code and it'd sense that the BST is the serial terminal to use.  Once I turned on the PropBOE, opened up the Serial Terminal, and started messing with the switch:
