Welcome to iRS-LD and iRS-LD-DAQ. These boards are Serial LCD boards. iRS-LD is only Serial LCD board while iRS-LD-DAQ is having additional 16 input output pins which can be used for Data Acquisition purposes apart from using it as regular serial LCD. Features of iRS-LD Serial LCD board - 1. RS232 based serial LCD. 2. Can be connected directly to COM port of any computer or laptop. 3. On board TTL connections also to connect to any MCU. 4. Can be used for 16*2 LCD. ( other options also will shortly be provided) 5. Simple commands to use full functionality of LCD. No need to know how to program LCD. 6. Up to 16 Digital I/Os including 4 ADC channels (having 10 bit resolution) are provided for Data Acquisition purpose. ( only for iRS-LD-DAQ board.) 7. 9-12 V dc power supply can be used. 5V regulator is provided on board. 8. Back Light of LCD can be controlled directly by software command. 9. On board power supply LED for visual indication.

Interfacing the Serial LCD and 5-position Switch

So I've had experience getting the Serial LCD and 5-position Switch working in a basic manner based on learn.parallax.com.  But now I want to get them to work together!

So I have them hooked up onto the PropBOE based on the following "principles"

The only thing I did different was because the Serial LCD is interfacing with pin 0, I moved all of the pins up 1 for the switch's connections.  So the wire originally connecting pin 0 to the switch would now be connected to pin 1, 1 became 2, 2 to 3, and so on.

I combined the LCD and the Switch code from the Kickstarts and did a little pruning.  When I ran the program, both lines on the LCD had the same direction of the switch, and the lettering wouldn't clear off properly.  So if I had pressed:

UP --> RIGHT--> DOWN --> UP ... The screen would look like this:

UP

DOWNT

DOWNT

UPWNT

UPWNT

And when I made it so that text would clear up, I guess I used the "12" command code which just made it so that as soon as I let go of the switch, the direction disappeared from the screen.

And well then I started thinking about how it was most likely my code that was the issue and so I tried changing up WHEN different things happen.  Instead of doing something after the switch's direction was displayed, I decided to do it before.

So this code sees whether the switch has been pressed to a particular position, then clears the screen, and displays the direction!  And it works!
