The 52-Week Savings Challenge
The hubs and I are both kind of terrible about saving money, and most years that doesn't really matter too much -- but this year was a bit different, what with the cancer and all. Suddenly, it totally mattered.
So if there's anything I'd like to do next year, it's start the habit of SAVING. Yup, that's officially my New Year's resolution. No more being an idiot with money.
I do have some "forced savings" and retirement plan type scenarios going on courtesy of my office - which work best for me, because "out of sight, out of mind" and all that - but I think I need to actively do something myself to really cultivate the habit.
So AHA! I found a pretty cool plan - the 52-Week Savings Challenge - on Lifehacker today...and of course I want everyone to join me. So listen up. Here's how it works:
How cool is that?? So easy! And totally doable!! Here's the computation (c/o Holyjeans and My Favorite Things), for those of you who like spreadsheets and stuff.
Now I live in the Philippines, of course, so there's no way I'm doing this in dollars...because how much of a freaking hassle would that be??
So I'm planning to do it in pesos instead. But since one Philippine peso is pretty much equivalent in value to like, a PEBBLE or something, I'll make it P10 on Week 1, P20 on Week 2, and so on.
If you want to upgrade that further you can start with P100 instead. Or even P1,000 if you want. WHATEVS! Just do it! Come on! Join me! The more, the merrier. :)
If you want to join the challenge, let me know in the comments. We can check up on each other throughout 2014. Happy saving, friends!
