P&D 18/55 Week 1.
1 week down !
Following on from my post on the marathon plan I’m doing. Here’s a summary for the first week! I’ve been filling in my plan as I’ve gone along with average paces and such.
It felt a bit weird kicking off 18 weeks of training that I’ve been thinking about for weeks with a rest day but I guess I’ll get used to resting on Mondays with the look of those long runs !
Mon - Rest
Tues - LT run - Lactate threshold (somewhere between 15k and HM race pace). I was aiming for 4:20 pace approximately and it came out at 4:18 so I was pretty pleased with that. I’m still having HR monitor issues which have been fixed a bit with gel but the rain isn’t helping but my target HR was coming out roughly right too - 180 bpm-ish. Really enjoyed this run though I can see that when I’m tired from training and these get longer I will come to dread them !
Wed - Ran Thursday’s general-aerobic run today instead. Got absolutely soaked but was worth it to have Thurs off for drinks! Target for GA is marathon pace + 15-25% so 5:11 to 5:38 pace - I averaged 5:12. This is a bit slower than I’d typically do them. but I think it was around the 150-160 bpm mark so that seems ok.
Thu - Rest and a few drinks :)
Fri - I did Saturday's scheduled recovery run today - really easy
Sat - Long run - as mentioned before I'm starting these further than planned. The schedule had me down for 19km but I did 27km. I stuck to Pfitzinger's paces though - starting around 5:15 /km and decreasing to around 5:00 /km during the last 10km or so. I then did some quicker ones - 4:40 ish for the last 2 km. These weren't called for but I like practising for kicking near the end of a race. Overall it was typically slower than I'd usually run my long runs - averaging 5:07 rather than 4:4x but my heart rate seemed about right - 150ish to 165ish near the end. I enjoyed it a lot too :)
Sun - Rest
Mileage completion - 113 %
Sessions completed - 4/4
Still faffing with my hrm. I've going to carry on with it a bit longer but I might need a new strap.
Might have set myself a bit of a target with this much write up on 1 week ! -but at least I've started it off well !
Yosemite National Park through f/22
This is my FAVORITE.
A 55 mile stroll around and through Greater Manchester. The bogle has been a feature of the University of Manchester's student union for 61 year. This is about 14-24 hours of walking starting at 7pm on a Friday night (an odd time to start perhaps?) - all for charity.
