When is enough ever enough? One bayonet begats another, and then probably another. The National Soldier Factory just west of the square in Gettysburg had this Ontario Knife Comany (OKC) 3S bayonet in their showcase... I must have asked them if I could see it too many times. Eventually, I made a trip into town early one morning just to buy it.
The OKC 3S bayonet was intended to fit on an M16 or M4 rifles where the distance from the muzzle to the bayonet lug isn't specific, because the muzzle brake/flash hider can vary in length. For the bayonet to fit properly on the Mossberg 590A1, I needed to put an additional O-ring under the magazine tube cap, just to offer an additional 1/8" of length. The O-ring on the mag tube cap is still required to stifle rattle, but she is secure.
The National Soldier Factory has another location in the old Rebel's Roost Antiques barn on route 30, outside of Gettysburg on the way to York. They have an original army issue Lan-Cay M9 bayonet there that I have had my eye on for some time. I just might have to pick it up soon to complete the collection!
