Behind the Scenes: Gold in our Hidden Collections
In an interview with Essential Pittsburgh last week, Marc Wilson, head of the minerals section, showed off a vial of heavy mineral concentrate collected in Colorado in the 1850s and a letter from the archives that gave it some context.
“This letter claims that this is the first gold sent east form the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush,” Wilson said.
Essential Pittsburgh, a local radio program broadcast on 90.5 WESA, recorded a segment on the museum’s hidden collections on May 4.
