5by5 Radio app coming very soon to iOS
If you are listening to podcasts weekly and you are not aware of the 5by5 network -- then you are not listening to the right podcasts. The network has grown so much since its introduction in 2009 and out of the six podcasts I listen to every week, five come from them.
The site offers an array of podcast choices including tech, movies, web/app development, design, sports -- you name it. And it's been expanding over the years adding new selections at a very rapid pace.
The genius behind 5by5 is Dan Benjamin who co-hosts most of the shows and does everything else in between. Dan is now taking the site to another level with the 5by5 Radio app for iOS.
When you are home and parked by a laptop or desktop, you can listen to all the shows live while they are being recorded and interact in the IRC room. Though, the on the go experience is non-existent or choppy at best on mobile devices.
That's where the app comes into play. During the latest “Build & Analyze” podcast -- Dan and Marco Arment discussed the app in more detail and I'm very excited for it to release.
Here is the apps premise. It will push notifications to your iOS device to let you know when your favorite shows are going to start. You can then jump into the application and listen to the show live. Very simple and effective – and from what I hear works very well.
If that isn't enough reason you should go buy this app when it comes out, they have also integrated live IRC right into the app to make this experience even that much better.
Dan also mentioned that there will be much more updates and features added after its initial release. One of them being 5by5's Showbot, which is a site where fans can suggest and vote for there favorite show titles.
The 5by5 Radio app is another step closer for Dan and his team to dominate the podcasting world and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Be on the look out for it in the App Store very soon. It looks like Dan just submitted it for review:
"Your app status is Waiting For Review" @5by5

I'll be writing a full review for the app soon. In the mean time, check out 5by5 and follow them on Twitter.
