11th May-Nathan-5 Reasons Why Saturday Night is the Worst Night to go Out on the Town.
People always rave(sometimes literally) about how great a Saturday night out on the town is but after years of going out I have come to the conclusion that it is probably the worst night out of the week. Also, after years of trying to avoid going out on a Saturday night but living in the middle of a city, I have seen even more things that strengthen my argument. You might read some of the points below and think that they could apply to any night out, and that might, in some cases, be true but they are all certainly heightened, or worsened, when it's a Saturday...
1. The Expenditure. I was originally going to entitle this point 'The Cost' but then I quickly realised that the cost of a going out on a Saturday night goes way beyond monetary value, it has an effect on your soul. Whilst on some evenings on the town you maybe get free entry to clubs and ridiculous drink offers wherever you go, I mean in some clubs a student card seems to be treated like a 'license to kill', although the victim is usually the card-owner themselves but on a Saturday night you get none of that. Instead of that you will start the night saying 'I'm not paying 8 quid to get into that shithole' and then a few hours later you are paying 9 quid to get into that shithole, because they lied about the door price and then you are at the bar buying a vodka and lemonade you could have bought for the 3 times less a few nights ago. Shite, eh?
2. The Dickheads. On any given night out you are going to see a few dickheads, but on a Saturday night they are out in droves. They spill onto the streets with the same haircut and clothes, smoking cigarettes and drinking whatever's fashionable enough to go along with their outfit. Fans of Aftershock. Fans of Jagerbombs. Fans of casual sex, and I don't mean that indie band.
3. The Club Nights. On a week night you might get a great niche club night, maybe an 80's night or an indie night or something similar but on a Saturday night, the majority of clubs are going to be playing the songs that have been pissing you off all through the week. Not to mention that the majority of bars with live music will have some pish cover band on, ramming through the likes of AC/DC and Meat Loaf before attempting a dodgy Rihanna cover that will totally ruin your night. Is it really so different from the awful talent show on television that you came out to avoid?
4. The Dirty Aura/The Assumption. I don't know if this one is all in my head but every time I go out on a Saturday night, there seems to be a horribly sleazy air about things. It feels like everyone is single and out there looking for it, and no one who's out could just be out with their friends for a few drinks. I don't know, I just know I don't like it.
5. Everywhere is Heaving. The only thing worse than being in a club that is uncomfortably empty is being in a club that is horribly packed. You have to queue to get in, it takes you about half an hour to get a drink and the dance floor is like entering a sauna that is packed with sumo wrestlers. Finding your friends becomes a nightmare, and if you're anything like me, you'll just give up and go home.
