A snowy walk on the Long Mynd
It crept up awfully quickly, the first day of the rest of my life!
There's been stopping and starting since the end of last year and now at last I have started the fitness challenge that will not only stretch and motivate me but also help become and remain a non-smoker!
Today's 5 kilometre challenge was intended to be a local walk-shuffle-walk-shuffle affair but having spent two days at work listening to everyone telling me how awesome it was on top of the Long Mynd and only being able to guess at the snowy awesomeness from the relative safety of Carding Mill Valley I decided to take my first day challenge on the hill.
My walk was 9.08 kilometres, took a little over 2 hours 20 minutes, involved 305 metres ascent. In addition I made one navigational error and one route choice error. This all added up to a slightly spicy walk with light fading towards the end, arctic cold winds blowing from the summit of Pole Bank, hurdling 8 foot high drifts and my iPhone battery dying very quickly owing to the cold. amazing couple of hours!

Up on the Mynd, snowy views in all directions
Corndon Hill and the Welsh Hills
The Burway - completely snowed in!
Never mind weak road, try no road!
Wind swept arctic desolation and yet so very beautiful
