scott and lydia are the most reasonable of the pack but for different reasons.
Scott's reason mostly comes from his empathy and strong beliefs while lydia reason is more based on logic and knowledge.
They can both very much agree not killing gerard.
But when scott starts talking about making peace with gerard, thats when their mindsets clash.
Scott has always believed that no one should get hurt as he has empathy for even his worst enemies while lydia has always acted logically in the process of saving people.
Scott has always believed that he can save everyone which is unrealistic while lydia has never expressed that. Even when she "pledges alligence" to scott by saying that she will stop fighting her powers and learn to use them which will buy time for scott to intervene, she never uses definite words that suggest that she would be able to prevent every death.
While they do go with scott's plan that doesn't invalidate lydia's concern as chris is the one who meet gerard as lydia brought up that gerard would kill scott as soon as he sees him. While lydia went with scott's plan she is not disintrested while carrying it out, she was pratically pleading with monroe for peace so that all the deaths would end.
Lydia is proven right becuase scotts marytr complex ass went to see monroe alone and would have been killed if her and malia didn't follow him. But scott's efforts weren't in vain as the pack has now gained information about monroe's back story, motivations and the dynamic with her and gerard.
They balance each other out, scott is more emotional while lydia is more objective but that doesn't mean that those traits are fixed onto them, a huge part of lydia's arc is learning to care for others and to be kind while a huge part of scott's arc is learning to be a leader in which he can't be running on only emotional impulses.
These aren't character flaws either as scott's empathy/kindness and lydia's intelligence/straight fowardness have saved the day time and time again.
