Apparently the metabolites they were testing for during my blood test are way off what they’re supposed to be. The one is too low to be having a therapeutic effect, and the other is too high, which is associated with hepatotoxicity. I wish I could talk to my doctor :(

it seems from looking online that I’ll either have to start taking allopurinol in addition to the 6-mp, or they’ll have to switch me to a different medicine because this one isn’t working anymore. But I’m not a doctor so idk :(

I hope my liver is okay

Back from hospital! Thanks for all the well-wishes, folks. I’m looking at you, thegaystreep themagicm tvfreakd captainbadassmarshmallowfluff and tea-with-miss-smith... and anyone else who left me a message/comment that I’ve missed off this list :)

So the long and short of it is: my new medication gave me pancreatitis. It’s a rare side effect of 6-MP and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. No more immunosuppressants for me!

Not quite sure what the next step in fighting the colitis is... Have an appointment on Thursday to see one of the gastro nurses, but I’m kinda hoping I’ll get to see my gastro doc instead. We’ll see. 

In the meantime, rest.

Guess who got sent to hospital at midnight? Yup. Me. Waiting on blood test results atm. I hate ulcerative colitis. I hate immuno-suppressants. I just want to be well.

Things I have learned about nausea:

1) Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.

2) Sitting up is better than lying down.

3) If you take 6-MP in the evening then you are at least at home when the nausea is at it’s worst, and can try to sleep through it in a propped up position. If you take it during the day you have no where to hide.

4) Distract yourself with something you love - watch a movie, read a book, listen to music, fangirl, write... Writing about nausea apparently does not count. 

5) Always have a bucket handy.

Can’t remember if I’ve already mentioned this on here but I’m now taking immuno-suppressants (6-MP aka: Mercaptopurine, which I can’t pronounce but makes me think of Cap’ America as some sort of strange merman/supercat hybrid) to try and kick my immune-system’s overachieving butt... 

Seriously, my immune response is double what it should be, which is great for avoiding colds but completely rubbish when you’ve got IBD and your immune-system is using all that fire-power to attack your own body. Blerg.

Anywho I was a bit worried because I’ve been on ‘immune-sups’ before (Aziathioprine, which I think could totally be on a list of dino’ names for Jusassic world). It did not end well. The first 2 weeks on the lower dose was fine, minus the odd bout of dizziness... but then the higher dose brought on nausea, projectile vomiting, migraines, and the general feeling of being hit by a freight train a few hundred times. :/

But my Doc was still concerned about my colitis and apparently some people who don’t tolerate ‘Azia’ get on better with 6-MP, so I agreed to give it a go. It’s strange being on a drug that’s typically used to treat leukemia but I’m getting on okay atm. Day one: fine. Slight bitter taste in my mouth but that’s ignorable. Day two (today): mild nausea, headache, bitter taste in mouth, back ache. Hmmm,

I really hope this is just my body adapting to the med change.
