Mother of Charlise Mutten

Australian Kallista Mutten, the mother of Charlise Mutten, appeared on 60 Minutes last night to open up about her daughter’s murder.

Kallista was a drug addict in prison when she fell in love with criminal and drug addict, Justin Stein in 2018. Kallista had a daughter, Charlise, who lived with her grandparents up in Queensland. Kallista remained in touch with her daughter.

Kallista and Justin were both released from prison and continued their drug addicted relationship. Kallista invited Charlise, 9, to visit her at the Blue Mountains, NSW, for the Christmas holidays in 2021. The couple were staying in a caravan on the Hawkesbury River, when Charlise visited them, and Justin asked Charlise to call him ‘daddy’.

On 11 January, Justin said that he was going to return to his home at Mount Wilson. Kallista let Charlise go with him, alone.

Charlise was murdered by Justin on 11 – 12 January 2022. When Justin and Charlise arrived at his Mount Wilson home, Justin started looking at X-rated material online. That afternoon/night Justin lured Charlise out of her room and into his room (onto his bed). He fed Charlise drugs. What he did next terrified Charlise so much, that she ran out of the home and down onto the property grounds. Justin gave chase with a weapon, and when he caught up with her, he shot her twice. Afterwards he returned home and placed all his sheets from his bed into the washing machine, to destroy evidence.

He returned to Kallista and told Kallista that Charlise was sick and being cared for by someone he knew and trusted. Justin and Kallista then did drugs and were intimate together and then returned to the home 11 hours later. Justin then told Kallista, that Charlise had been kidnapped. Kallista didn’t report Charlise missing until three days after Charlise had been murdered.

Justin stuffed Charlise body in a barrel with sand in it, drove around with it in the back of his vehicle and then dumped it near the Colo River. He also buried two weapons in in bush area. Justin was given a life sentence and Kallista who neglected her daughter and put her in danger, didn’t get any criminal sentence. Kallista said on 60 Minutes that Justin was ‘pure Evil’ and admitted that her decisions is something “I’ve got to live with.”
