Robocop – 6000 SUX
Robocop is a bit of a genre buster. The movie blends sci-fi elements with gritty violence and a heavy dose of satire. The 6000 SUX lampoons the Pontiac 6000 for the latter’s American excess and mediocrity. Fashioned from a ‘77 Olds Cutlass Supreme, the 6000 SUX is a hulking four-door sedan with body work that lends a passing resemblance to the Citroen CX. A commercial for the 6000 SUX in the film sums the car up by proclaiming that “bigger is better,” calling it an American Tradition, and proudly listing its 8.2 mpg rating. The 6000 SUX is an ugly, gas-guzzling monstrosity, like many American cars then and now.
