CRUCIALLY, there is a segment on gabe perreault (which also mentions bc line).
my newest opp, the clanker corey pronman at 36:17 starts shitting on my GOAT gabe perreault. i will not transcript it because there isn't much of a point but to summarize pronman questions why gabe is ahead of certain "premium prospects" with better all around skills. he then describes gabe as a, "slow, 5' 11'' winger." (chat hold me back i'm gonna crash out).
it then pans out to scott wheeler (my newest goat) looking absolutely baffled at the slander.
pronman then says you have to expect perreault to be the next lucas raymond to put gabe where he was.
SO BEGINS THE GLAZE as wheeler rebuts pronman (starting from 37:15). i will highlight notable moments.
Wheeler: I don't think you have to think that he's Lucas Raymond to get him ahead of [prospects that idk how to spell the last names of mb]. Like I just think you have to view him as a potential first line winger where those guys are potential second line players. Like I think that's---and even if he is a second line player, I think they're close… Gabe Perreault is the all-time single season points record holder at the NTDP. Still stands. He had a 60 point college season. He has pointed in the AHL. He made a ton of plays on that Rangers team towards the end of the season. There were some ups and downs for him at the NHL level. He was a driver on a terrible AHL team offensively and late in the year he was a driver, say what you will about the team, he was still a driver on an NHL team from a skill, play making, getting his linemates into good spots, putting pucks into good spots, execution, power play. Like I just think we've, with Gabe, like I see no reason why he doesn't belong with [prospects that idk how to spell the last names of] with what he has accomplished over the course of his career with the way that he thinks the game. I think Gabe is one of the smartest, most intelligent offense players outside the NHL in terms of this group, just in terms of the way he thinks it offensively, the way he reads it. And I think the skill level is high, high-end. And I've never felt that the competitiveness and the skating were nearly the sort of marks against him that some have. Like I think he skates fine, I think he works.
Pronman: Yeah, I think the skating is an issue. I think he competes very well for a small guy. I just kind of feel like you basically are like hoping he's Marchessault (Preds Center, notably 5' 9'') now.
Chris Peters (interjecting into the slop that Pronman is spewing): I dunno man, man.
Wheeler (also interjecting into Pronman's bullshit): I think he's going to be like a 60-70 point guy in the league.
Peters (with INCREDIBLE aura): I think he's gonna be more than that. I think he's gonna be more than that. So, let's go back in time, if you will, to 2013-14 Tampa Bay Lightning. Nikita Kucherov. 18 points in 52 games. 18 points in 52 games. Gabe Perreault, arguably, was a more impactful rookie than Nikita Kucherov was. And, I think at the---I don't think he's going to be Kucherov level points---I'm not going to say that, I'm not saying that. He is one of the most intelligent players on this list, right here. I think he has among the best hockey sense offensively of any player here. The question is going to be, and what Kucherov's benefit was, was that he did have one of the elite teams that he walked into where it was Stamkos, it was Hedman, it was y'know other guys. That's not the advantage that Gabe Perreault is going to have. But I think we, at the top of his projection, I do think he can be a 100 point player in the league. I think he can play topline minutes, and I think that this is one where I was less convinced of that before this season. The games that I watched of him with the Rangers I was like "okay, it's gonna work. It's not only going to work, it's probably going to work really well." The question is where does, where do the---
Pronman (interjecting like a dumb fart): How's he doing different from Marco Rossi? Same age.
Wheeler: I think he's way way way smarter. Like the offensive IQ is at a higher level.
Peters: Yeah, and the role is going to be different. I mean, Rossi is not, he's a center for one, there's a lot of things that he's going to have to do. But I look back and I say if they can get some support…. Because the thing that Gabe has always done well, is make others better, and also take advantage of the skills around him. Now, he'd had great players that he's been able to play with coming up through the ranks, namely Will Smith and Ryan Leonard. I have always thought that, because of the physical talents and the more flashy talents that [those] players have had, he's been underrated. But I think the brain and the hockey sense of him is Kucherov level.
Pronman spews some bullshit (sorry idk which player he said was actually closer to Gabe).
Peters: I think you're crazy. I think like, that's bananas. Like watch a freaking game. Like seriously. I mean like Machelli(?), c'mon man. A guy that could not even get qualified this year? Give me a break.

Max Bultman: Chris though, if you are saying that he's more than a 60-70 point players, like do you think he's the best of those 3? Smith, Leonard, Perreault?
Peters: I think all of them are---I think Ryan Leonard's a 40 goal scorer, I mean the way the Sharks are going Will Smith is going to be a 100 point player. Like I mean these are legit---it's going to probably be one of the greatest lines in the history of the NTDP of Matthews-Tkachuk-Roslovic. I just think that there is an absolute chance that Gabe is gonna be a topline productive player.
this has obviously been done knew. both leno and smitt have consistently complimented gabe and thought that he dropped draft rank too much (i would source this but too much work to find mb). wheeler also clearly thinks very highly of will smith (he interjected during peters's final bit which i couldn't tell what he was saying, but it was clearly complimentary of smith). STOP SLEEPING ON MY BC LINE 🫵. actually, keep on sleeping on them. can't wait to see them surprise everyone in a couple of years.
idk why pronman is such a hater. he's harping on gabe's height, but as he alluded to himself, there are tons of shorter players in the nhl who succeed. idk why he cares so much about his skating too. that's something that can be improved on, getting the level of hockey iq that gabe has is not as easy.
