dude ive been trying to type something up for like 10 minutes, something eloquent and long about how these kinds of comics are more often than not the product of catharsis, and how different stories resonate with different people, and how i reblogged this comic from myself after rediscovering it buried in my archives while lookin for something else for the EXPLICIT purpose of giving it more visibility because of how much it resonated with me, but all i can really bundle my feelings up with is that your comments are so unbelievably rude and unnecessary. if i were the artist i would be so disheartened by this. like, sorry other people’s suffering is “annoying” and “boring”.
sometimes both artists and readers alike appreciate comics like these because we recognize these moments in ourselves, and by examining it as an external and tangible thing separate from jumbled feelings and fleeting, fragmented micro-thoughts we can better understand and cope with it. sometimes a dash of the call the void (l’appel du vide) is necessary for self-preservation; sometimes you need to imagine rock bottom to ensure you don’t get there. and if you feel like you ARE there, it’s important to catalogue and quantify that, to understand the sum of the parts, in order to defeat and recover from it. This comic touches on self/body image, value in the workplace, feelings of alienation and isolation, diet, working and living conditions, medication, so on and so forth, all of which need to be taken in account in understanding motives and mood.
i dunno man these comments are just so unbelievably rude. it’s not like it was made for the sunday funnies or something, like dont leaf through asterios polyp and then be mad it isn’t garfield. and just because it has a lot of notes it doesnt mean it’s entirely detached from its creator. they have to see that some internet nobodies are shitting on a work that is clearly already not created with the intention of being flattering. like, show some decorum ffs.
at the very least, it’s really dumb to go out of your way to essentially point out “i dont like that thing you like” but on something personal like this that i obviously identify with it just feels like baseless needling.
