1: Is writing cathartic or stressful for you?

MMMMMMMMM!

A little of both. I usually find it stressful when I can't write, because I use my creativity as a barometer of how much pressure I'm under -- the worse things are, the harder of a time I have being expressive.

But there are definitely times where I feel like I might be pouring too much of myself and my personal feelings into something, and that someone's going to come along and magically root out something deeply personal about me, when I know that's probably not the case at all. I think some of my best, most satisfying writing has come from finding something about a character I can personally relate to, or something I've struggled with that's tangential to, and being earnest in prose along those lines of thinking/feeling -- but, also, the mortifying ordeal of being known, etc. etc. etc.

Do you have a muse?i remember this section from on writing but only BARELY. generally i do not adhere to the idea of a “muse.” you just gotta sit down and do it yourself, man. there’s no external or internal force besides your own willpower that can make you. (i do think my essence is a reclusive old lady who lives in the woods by a big lake, though, so maybe i see what he’s talking about.)
