late night conversations were never supposed to lead to confessions. yet as you lay next to haemin, he finally lets down the walls he's built for everyone but you. sometimes he has to embrace it.

OMI NOTE and alas, here is the final part of this series. although it was short (there genuinely just wasn't a good amount of adventure time songs), i am sincerely so proud of this series. ending it off kinda tame with haem. no rhyme intended.

the rest of the world was shut out from haemin, he’d always been like that. locked away in the confines of his chest was a beating heart that wasn’t accessible to anyone but you. he still remembered the way your hand grasped onto his with no hesitation, picking him up from a fall on the playground. 

everyone around him was playing happily, not wanting to sacrifice their treasured time on the swing sets or monkey bars. but you stopped for him, reaching out to pick him back up on his feet. he wiped dirt from his hand - me - down levi’s short and kid sized denim shorts. you furrowed your eyebrows, pointing at the scrape on his knee.

it didn’t even occur to him that he was bleeding, because he could only feel the dark butterfly awakening in his stomach for the very first time. wind lightly danced against the air, surrounding the two of you comfortably. there was a bandaid in the front pocket of your little backpack, and a bottle of water in the netting on the side. an innocent friendship flourished that day.

you never pried him for answers, never begging to understand why he was how he was; content with the idea that you’d be there for him regardless of what he wanted to share with you. it was a silent pact that went unspoken.

but some feelings never failed to back away, you made him feel small again. the pretty girl that helped him on the playground even when he didn’t say a thing or mouth a thank you. words fell from your lips in a tangent, telling him whatever was on your mind, and he listened. moving towards highschool, this always stayed consistent between the two of you.

there were a lot of girls that were charmed by his mysterious persona, which made them envy you. it was difficult pretending you didn’t notice their glares. by your junior year of college, you had developed you’re own list of frequently asked questions.

is it true that jung haemin was a bully? does he seriously only talk to you all the time? is he pretending to be monotone or does he actually not have a personality? 

questions like these made you rub at your temples, trying to ease the growing headache you had. this was beyond whether he was a good guy or not, because when he was alone with you he was perfect. laughing at every stupid joke you made, putting away the ice pack in your lunch when you were too lazy, doing your skincare for you when you weren’t mentally there and just needed to sleep.

haemin often came to your house when school was over, following behind you as you explained to him the course of your day. the sound of a keychain jingling against his backpack made you know he was still there. you had purchased it for him the previous year to liven up his plain backpack, with you of course having a matching one. 

when you got to your front door, you slipped off your school shoes and welcomed yourself inside. upon entering, your dog was clearly excited, pattering it’s feet against the cold floors upon seeing you and a common visitor. reaching down, you plant a soft pat on your pets head and run off to your bedroom upstairs.

dropping your backpack on the floor, you let yourself fall into the comfort of your warm sheets. haemin cringed slightly at you laying down in your every - day clothes. he tells you that it dirties your comforter, but you’re too tired to care.

“haem, i just want to lay down forever. can’t we delay studying just a little bit?” your voice is muffled into your blankets.

“you know we can’t, y/n. we don’t want to fail, otherwise your parents won’t let me come over anymore.” he sighs, sitting down next to your sprawled out figure.

“give me like.. five minutes to just relax.” you plead, turning over on your back and pouting out your bottom lip.

“five minutes turns into ten, ten turns into twenty, and suddenly you’re in class with no clue what you’re doing.” he tells you, “you don’t want to regret it later.”

“i despise you for being such a wonderfully productive influence on me, haem.” you sit up from your spot, rubbing your tired eyes.

“do you want me to put all your jewelry away so you don’t have to go through the long, agonizing pain of doing it yourself?” he compromises with you.

“what did i do to deserve you?” you smile softly, moving your hair out of the way as he moves closer to you.

the bed dips behind you, a warm presence of your best friend only mere inches away from you. fidgeting with each little clasp on the back of your neck, he finally wraps his arms around your neck and the jewelry over your head. he then takes two ends of the ribbon in your hair and pulls them apart to loosen up and be put to the side. 

he collects each delicate item in his hand and quickly takes it over to your vanity, before returning in front of you. the touch against your skin still lingered, even when he was away from you. 

“thank you haem. suddenly i’m rejuvenated and ready to study until both of my hands fall off.” you thank, slipping off your cardigan to hang on one of your bed posts.

“yeah, no problem.” he mumbles, “did you finish any of the homework that was assigned to us?”

“there was homework.. on top of the test that we’re already taking tomorrow?” you whine as he nods at you. 

“you should go to sleep at decent times from now on, you’re constantly dozing off in class.” he mentions, unzipping his backpack to pull out a binder.

“hey, wait– you watch me in class?!”

“i don’t watch you, i just happened to notice. plus i saw you active on roblox when i was going to bed last night.” he explains to you, watching your face contort into an embarrassed expression.

“maybe you’re right! i won’t confirm nor deny that any of that is real. but a little birdie told me that if i didn’t grind all night i would’ve never been able to surpass jaeyun’s high score..” you attempt at defending yourself.

“as long as you had fun. but seriously, you should rest early tonight, okay?” he advises, as you follow in grabbing your supplies.

“what did i do to deserve such a caring best friend?” you declared, sitting criss cross on your bed with all your materials finally out, “i already beat him anyways and he doesn’t know, so i live for another day!”

best friend, he was used to the idea of you always calling him that; mainly because it was true. though there was something inching him to hope for something a little more. he wanted to get used to that idea instead.

“mhm, are you ready? i remember you telling me you didn’t really understand this question.” he pointed at a problem with his pencil, looking back up to you.

“ah– you remember. yeah i don’t get it very much, can you teach me?”

the two of you studied for awhile, haemin assisting you in anything you couldn’t quite wrap your head around. when you weren’t exactly focused, you busied yourself in drawing little doodles on his paper against his wishes. though he made sure none of them got erased.

the night came awfully quick, the remaining few beams of sun barely escaping into your bedroom window before it became dark. music played through the airpods you both shared, your playlist finally coming to an end. all of this accumulating made it obvious that it was time to stop studying. 

you reached over to your bedside table to click on your lamp, illuminating the darkness of your room. flopping back on your bed, you lay on your stomach while staring up at haemin.

“let’s call it a night, i’m tired of looking at the same things over an over again.” you frown, poking at his knee. 

“you’re always tired though.” he insisted, putting his things away in his bag. 

“i would get defensive, but you’re completely right.” you agreed, laying your head down against your arms. 

“i can leave now if you want to sleep..” he says quietly as you close your eyes.

“no, stay for a bit. my parents don’t come home for awhile and i don’t mind the company.”

“okay, i’ll stay. but don’t worry about me if you feel like you’re about to pass out.”

“i won’t.” you yawn, stretching your arms out, “lay down with me, let’s talk or something. you never even told me how your day was, stupid.”

“i usually don’t tell you about my day though, i just listen to you.” he obliges, laying down next to you but still maintaining a distance. any closer and he might explode.

“then how about we start with that? did you do anything interesting?” you look over at him fondly, seeming as if you could see the gears turning in his head.

“um, i talked to kyungmin in class today before the bell rang. but i mainly just listened to music the rest of the day?” he said, “besides when i was hanging out with you.”

“aww, i get your full attention?” 

“well if you put it like that then i guess.” he blushes.

“you’re funny haem, get into any drama?” you lean yourself on your forearms.

“besides the usual people whispering about me? but you know i don’t mind that much..” he ponders back to his school day but comes up with nothing.

“i wish people knew you like i did. i don’t understand why everyone has to be such an asshole.” you scoot slightly closer to him, lying your head down on his stomach.

“it– it’s fine i told you it doesn’t really bother me.” his breath hitches when you make contact with the thin material of his shirt. your face was smushed against him as you listened to what he had to say.

“it still kind of sucks either way, i’m sure there’s a lot of things on your mind even if you say you don’t care.” you assume, making him curious.

“things on my mind?”

“oh! i know we don’t really talk about..” you pause, “mushy feelings, i guess? it doesn’t matter to me, but everyone has them y’know? it must be hard to hear everyone paint you out to be someone you’re not.”

“i’m sorry that i don’t tell you much, y/n.” he says seriously.

“huh? haem you know me better than that, i would never force you to tell me anything.” you assure him sincerely, but that only makes him frown.

“we’ve been friends forever, you should know these things about me.” he whispers. 

“don’t beat yourself about it, please?” you trace figures on the sides of his arms, giving him goosebumps

he doesn’t say anything for a second, thinking about what exactly he wants to tell you. trying to figure out if his intention was to let you know what happens in the deepest crevice of his mind. would you run away from him? would he forget your grasp?

“i was kind of, a messed up kid.” he started, “there was a point where it felt like i had to teach myself how to live. and i don’t think you know how much you actually helped me from anxiety as a kid, and now too. i’ve grown so much from you. even if you can’t tell, i can.”

“haemin, you didn’t have to tell me that.” you furrow your eyebrows, worried that the boy is forcing himself.

“i want to, y/n.” he affirms.

“then i’ll listen.” you nodded, letting your fingertips rest against his. he intertwines the both of your hands suddenly.

“i’ve always felt like a monster, and it became so clear that people saw me like that too. i might be the person that doesn’t talk to many people, or that my resting face is too intimidating, but it made me tough if anything.” he lets out a shaky exhale, “but i’m still scared that i’m not good enough.”

“they’re so incredibly stupid for not treating you like– a normal person. you’re perfect haemin, believe me.” you responded sadly.

“there’s so many other things i’m terrified of, y/n. you’re the pink in my cheeks, but i’m also scared cause that means i’m a little bit soft.”

“haem.. i make you soft?”

“how could you not?” he laughs in slight disbelief, “i used to think that, being in love with you would be a problem, but i’m starting to think it’s a good problem to have.”

“you don’t even know how nice it is to hear that. i’ve liked you too, haemin. at one point i started to get defensive whenever a classmate would ask me to talk to you for them.” you confess, burying your hands in your face.

“you’ve had a crush on me too?”

“like you said, how can i not?” 

“then what does that mean for us..?” he questions.

“i don’t know exactly. we stop being friends most likely.” his eyes go wide, making you giggle, “then we try something more instead. how does boyfriend and girlfriend sound?”

“i could get used to this, then.” a smile plays on his face.

GLITTER ON OUR BLUSHED CHEEKS

haemin was the perfect boyfriend, and you couldn't stop admiring him. for their recent comeback, they seemed to use a lot of glitter to freckle his cheeks. but you thought he sparkled without it!

PAIRING jung haemin x gn!reader WC 0.6k TAGS established relationship. fluff. lots of kissing! OMI NOTE silly drabble for @woonhakist inspired by the comment she made yesterday about 8turns stylists putting glitter on their faces.

those eyes were stuck in your mind, as well as the glitter freckled atop his porcelain skin. it sat effortlessly on his face. and while the thought of the sparkles getting everywhere cringed you out, haemin couldn’t look more beautiful.

but maybe it was just him; no, it definitely was just him. he always entranced you, looking most ethereal at every moment of the day. whether his face was bare, or concealed with different makeup products and foundations, he was perfect.

and you never hesitated to let these words slip from your lips. expressing every synonym for the word ‘breathtaking’ you could think of from the top of your head. his face contorted at your compliment, the easily embarrassed boy you’ve known to love.

despite this, you always knew how much he appreciated the love you gave to him. what the two of you had felt for eachother was special in more ways than one.

in front of you, he sat on a spinny chair getting his makeup done. the feeling of soft prickles from a brush wiped against his cheeks. from the mirror that lay in front of him, he could see you in the background waiting patiently.

as soon as the brush lifted off his skin, and the stylist left from the room, he spun around to give you some attention.

“they did a really good job on your makeup, wow! you look really pretty haem.” you grin as he sit on the arm of the couch.

“thank you angel. i’m so tired, but i’m excited to do the photo shoot.” he sighed, looking down at your figure.

“i’m sure they’ll love it, plus you can get a lot of rest afterwards.” you affirm positively, making his lips perk up slightly.

he let out a quiet ‘mmhm’ before tilting your face up to meet his, kissing softly against your lips. 

“hey what was that for?” you said jokingly.

“you’re also really pretty.” he runs a hand through your hair before letting it rest at the top of your head.

“pshh, you’re the one all dolled up!” you blush at the compliment before he swipes a finger against your bottom lip, kissing you again.

the sway of his lips against yours lasts longer this time, melting into the touch of you. at times when sometimes he’d be more shy, he forgot about everything once you were perfectly against him.

“y’know, that glitter on your face makes you look magical but it kind of gets everywhere.” you pull away, wiping a stray sparkle from your cheeks.

“would you prefer me without the glitter?”

“i love every makeup look you have my love, but i feel like it’s gonna be hard to pretend like we weren’t just kissing when so much of it transferred over.” your laugh made him shy.

“shh.. nobody will ever know.” his kiss trails against the corners of your mouth and to your forehead as you squirm beneath him. at that point you almost felt identical to a unicorn.

“haemin..!” you whined, shaking your head to rid yourself from the speckles.

“okay okay i’ll stop.” he had a slight smile, taking the pads of his fingers to wipe your face. 

there was a tender moment between you two for a second, as he cleaned the remaining glitter from your face. the way he looked at you with so much genuine care almost made you faint, feeling comfortable at his touch.

when he finished, he wiped his hands together to get off any excess, before poking at your cheek.

“maybe next comeback you should wear a sequin top to match with the glitter.” you tease.

“you’re so dumb, angel.”

YOU TAUGHT ME HOW TO FEEL UNLOVED

there used to be so much love there, just two people completely infatuated with one another. you've been through so much with haemin, and you thought maybe he'd fight for your relationship. but even after all this hurt part of you still loved him.

OMI NOTE another little something for my @woonhakist because i love writing for her. except unlike prince sungho it's actually angst. sorry sungho ur getting booted out of this. this has been in my drafts for about a month but now i'm motivated to get it done for u hehe. i hope you like. ^_^ (inspired by just me by rin)

the skys were clouded with pillows of dark gray. it had been rainy recently, the smell of wet pavement becoming more distinguishable as it continued. you wanted to assume that maybe it was his fault. the reason behind why your days were always so dark.

it was common to fear the unknown. being innocently unaware of what was going on behind the scenes was slowly eating at your insides; making you feel as if you were the dead carcass of a street animal, being fed on by rats.

things were different recently, he was different. haemin was going out more than usual, a breath of fresh air in comparison to the introverted persona you were used to. despite your worries, he convince you that you didn’t need to know where he was all the time.

“i’m just hanging out with kyungmin and a few other friends. do you have to be so worried?” he groaned.

“it’s not like that, haem! i just got curious…”

shouldn’t you be glad? that feeling of relief knowing he was blooming into a person that could celebrate with others. it was growth, but not in the way you expected. more or less, he was growing into someone unrecognizable.

phone dials were met with an empty line. and even when he did answer, he ended the call with a simple ‘bye’ and not ‘i love you more.’

still, you loved him to the moon and back. every couple went through a rough patch, you understood that when you agreed to be with him. though it was difficult to convince yourself you were content with how things were playing out.

often you took long walks to distract yourself from the unread text messages. it was this time at noon that was most gloomy. your umbrella collected droplets of water, dripping down the side to barely avoid you.

you saw couples on the streets, holding hands happily. they took photos together and shared hot drinks with eachother to battle the slight cold. you envied them.

because in your head, that position seemed almost unreachable. he was so far away from you, farther than you could even realize. what used to be something special between your heart and his wasn’t recognizable.

that day, you stopped going on walks. everything reminded you of the boy that was falling out of love. you came home quickly, trying to outrun your own thoughts. the bronze plate with your apartment number came into view as you dug through your bag to get the keys.

fumbling with the lock for a second, you finally open up to your home. immediately your gaze lands on an extra pair of shoes by the door, making your heart skip a beat slightly. tugging off your own, you set down your umbrella in a corner to dry.

when walking farther into the house, you see haemin sitting comfortably on the couch. he looked busy on his cell phone, paying almost no mind to your presence.

“haem! i didn’t know you would be home, where were you?” you smile fondly, letting yourself sit next to him.

“oh. i was just out for a bit.” he barley acknowledged your existence, angling his phone slightly away from your view. you noticed this, but said nothing.

“did you have fun? it was pretty rainy out today so i hope you weren’t cold.”

“yeah, it was fine.”

“that’s good! did you eat while you were out? i can always make us something for dinner, though i do need to get some groceries–”

“are you done with your questions?” he said bitterly, setting down the device to look at you.

“i’m sorry haem, we just haven’t spoken in awhile and i wanted to see how your day was.” you said in a whisper.

“don’t be so clingy, y/n. we see eachother everyday.” he tells you.

“oh. you’re right, i don’t know why i was being so silly.”

“mhm.” he mumbles under his breath before getting up from his seat towards the bathroom. 

after the door shut behind him, the pit at the bottom of your stomach grew deeper. this wasn’t like him at all. the excitement that would underlie his stoic demeanor because all the love he had for you was overflowing disappeared. could you even call it love when you didn’t exactly know what it was?

every romantic word hes ever told you felt meaningless; what happened to ‘you’re so pretty, y/n. you’re so sweet?’

you could hear haemin’s muffled voice from down the hall, before movement of caps and containers echoed the bathroom walls. it sounded like he was on a call with somebody. he came out soon after, shaking the remaining drops of water off of his clean hands. 

“i’m going out.” he calls out to you before pulling his coat off the rack.

“wait! didn’t you just go out? i can go with you if you’d like!”

“no, i’ll be out late and i know you get agitated if you’re in public for too long.”

“can’t you just stay in for a little then? what about a movie night like we always used to have?” you rushed over to him, desperate to spend any sort of time together, “i just miss you haem..”

“did anything i say get into your head? you don’t need to so clingy, i’m just going out with a couple friends.”

“haemin…” you reached out to his hand, fingertips barely getting the chance to touch him before he was pulling away like you were the plague.

“god. i can’t do this anymore, y/n. i just want to live without you bothering me constantly!” he complains, sliding both of his shoes on forcefully.

“what is that supposed to mean?” you furrow your eyebrows worriedly.

“it means that i’m having a hard time pretending like i haven’t fallen out of love with you.” he sighs, “just give it a break, y/n. you knew were never going to last."

it felt like your world was collapsing around you. there was a confused look on his face as you stood there silently, trying not to cry. you wondered what it felt like to die, and if it felt anything like this.

they say your life flashes before your eyes, yet all that flashed was memories of what you and haemin used to be. you felt stupid to think that maybe it was salvageable, but the sorry truth hurt much more than this ill fantasy.

“but you promised me. you promised me that we would work through everything together, haem. was that a lie?” you choked.

“i wouldn’t make an empty promise like that, don’t twist my words.” he muttered.

“i’m not twisting anything! when you first confessed to me you said so many sweet things and promised to always–”

“i said give it up. that was almost a year ago, okay? you can’t expect me to keep a promise like that for so long.”

“are you serious right now haemin? after all that we’ve been through?” you uttered with a hurt tone.

“i cared about you, okay? but i can’t handle this anymore.”

“you’re my first boyfriend, i– i can’t let you go without at least talking first!” your words came out as a broken sob, but haemin only looked at you with disgust.

“and you were my worst.” he scoffed, “i can’t be with someone who isn’t mature enough to understand when i need time away.”

“but–”

“don’t even look at me right now, y/n.. i don’t want to hear you speak. i’ll come back and get my things later.” he leaves you with a bitter ending, before leaving out the door.

watching the love of your life leave you with no closure and not a second word was starting to physically pain you. you felt yourself drop to your knees as his sentences rung in your mind, stringing themselves into a sequence of utmost heartbreak.

cold hardwood floors comforted the red - hot heat that began to rise up your face like a wild fire. you were embarrassed of yourself, disappointed that you couldn’t grow enough for him to see you. see that you could change.

and while he was out with no doubt in his mind that he made the right decision, your world was shattering in the comfort of the home you used to share with him.

the only time he messaged you was him asking for you to pack up all of his stuff for an easier pickup. it was clear he didn’t want to see you anymore than he had to. would he see how mature you had become in the four hours he was gone if you obeyed him?

boxing up all of his things neatly, you stripped every memory the two of you ever shared together. your house feeling ever so empty from the lack of love, trapped in between cardboard walls. 

for what it was worth, you attempted to write a note to send off with him. however, your vision was too blurry with your tears, and you couldn’t keep them in. the smudged ink added for dramatic effect, but it was too much that it was impossible to read coherent words.

your head was scrambled everywhere, and for a second you thought he was right when he said you were immature. it felt like when you were back in highschool giving him silly love notes to hide in his backpack pocket. it reminded you of how he said that they were all still there, as he never bothered to clean them out.

why couldn’t things be the way that they used to? throwing away so much because there was a lack of communication. you wanted to see him, be with him. feel the pure touch of his lips sending shockwaves to your beating heart.

but since that day, you never saw him once. rushing to grab all of his things and get out of your life, barely escaping your desperate grasp. what was once a fond moment became a distant daydream.

you were so blinded by your infatuation for him, despite the fact he never thought of you like that. once again you failed to understand much.

and things only got harder from then on, your plush pillow absorbing your tears. the air in your room only grew heavier as time continued. 

at first days, then weeks, and months were going by that you gave him so much love from afar. a comfortable distance through your phone screen where he couldn’t spit such hurtful words to you again. it was difficult to bear with his selfish sense of care.

stalking him on social media didn’t get you anywhere really. he already moved on from you. though you were unsure whether your jealousy blossomed from the fact that she was beautiful, or that he moved on extremely fast. maybe it was both.

posts of his hand intertwined with hers, captioned with cheesy song lyrics that used to hold so much meaning to you. your music taste always tended to rub off on him. 

there were long paragraphs declaring how much she meant to him, and how she was such a breath of fresh air in comparison to his past relationships. these sacred words that used to be yours. and while you remembered what the two of you had together, he could only think of her.

still, you loved him.

but things got easier, even when you thought they wouldn’t. it took some time for you to realize that being alone was a lot easier on the heart. 

there was a big takeaway from this, being that the only thing he taught you what it was like to feel unloved. though everything that happened when things were okay, you’d never take for granted. 

the sky felt brighter, and you made your walks frequent again. you remembered thinking how dreary he’d make your days seem, but it felt like you were finally able to see the sun again. because throughout the multitude of stars in the galaxy, one always shone the brightest.

even when you were blinded by a haze, it was still there. maybe you were the star.
