Yes that is the 6 month anniversary date with Tommy outfit - when he learnt that Tommy was engaged to Abby. Which ultimately lead to their break up! And yes this is the only other time we have seen buck in this full colour way and I have up most fifth in ABP and the costume team so I know this is important!
I think it’s very interesting that we are costume paralleling that scene and plot line with this one! Paralleling the information about Tommy being engaged to Abby, With a doctor telling buck he clearly has a developing addiction problem and he’s been flagged up on the system about it.
Because the Tommy date was about setting up Buck needing to actually figure out if the relationship was what he wanted and needed and forcing him to more fully reckon with that part of himself. It brought Bucks struggles with that information and what it meant for him and for the relationship - to a point where he was seeking advice from people (now forever more sad we didn’t get the Buck and Bobby scene about this!) to try and help him make the decision but he was misunderstanding it - which resulted in him repeating his pattern of trying to take the easy road and stay in the relationship via a knee jerk reaction - asking Tommy to move in with him - leading to their break up and I would say triggering bucks coping mechanisms to a far greater degree than ever before - including what would technically be classed as a relapse - the hook up after Eddie left for Texas. And the entire point of Tommy and that relationship - was the Eddie of it all - every single step of that relationship was haunted by Eddie and the fact Buck was misunderstanding his jealousy and feelings right from the moment Tommy appeared on the scene and started being friendly with Eddie (Buck was also wearing a dark navy top when Tommy kissed him fyi - always the easy route rather than the right and best route when it comes to Buck in navy!!)
So what do I think might be happening here?! Well I think in the same way the date presented Buck with new information which he then had to calibrate and decide what to do with an how he felt about it - that this scene with the doctor will make Buck have to face up to the fact he’s spiralling out and developing an addiction and look at why that is - what the causes are.
I then think we’ll see Buck take the seemingly easy road - maybe he’ll try the same thing with another doctor with the same result and then decide he can just quit if he wants - that he isn’t addicted - paralleling him making a decision (he might try to do some more research into addiction or something idk) - so he’ll maybe go cold turkey - which will make him feel terrible - to the point where he makes that knee jerk reaction and either caves and manages to get hold of the meds from somewhere, or he decides that the mental anguish he’s struggling with (because this is a mental trauma induced addiction not a physical pain one imo - I don’t think he’s actually in physical pain beyond it being a mental manifestation of his grief) isn’t worth it and he wants to end it all. Either way he’ll overdose which lead to the intervention he desperately needs (akin to Tommy breaking up with him) and then it will lead to healing - with coping mechanisms included (maybe we’ll stick with baking or maybe Buck will try something new who knows) and to him actually confronting his feelings about Eddie along the way.
Of course I’m speculating here - I don’t know how this will play out over the next few episodes and I’m gonna struggle to watch and analyse because it’s already triggering me and hitting a bit too close to home. But I will speculate that this is how we get buddie even closer than ever - with the elephant in the room getting bigger and bigger - but neither of them wanting to risk things while things are finely balanced - but something will happen that will lead to them realising tomorrow isn’t promised and actually saying what they won’t say - and getting together. I also have a mini prediction that we’re getting a parallel to mays graduation - with probably baby Nash’s first birthday party - and buddie leaving early in a parallel to Madney - and that being them leaving to be together - maybe when they actually get together. And that will end the season (or Tim will be even crueler than he is already and we won’t know why they left and will have to wait for s10 to find out!!)
