After they put Chris to bed, most of Eddie and Buck’s attention was directed on each other. But sometime around midnight, the conversation tapered off and the next thing Eddie knew Buck was asleep.
Now it was close to 2am and Eddie knew he needed to get up and head to his own bed, but for just a second longer, he wanted to stay in the moment.
The sounds of Jim complaining about Dwight filled the otherwise silent living room. But Eddie’s full attention was directed on the sleeping figure beside him, stretched out so his socked-feet were on the coffee table and he was leaning against Eddie, his head resting on his good shoulder. Buck had lost the battle to sleep sometime after the fourth episode of the show. He had requested for Eddie to put on The Office mostly for background noise.
Buck’s head was heavy, but Eddie didn’t want to move. He studied the way Buck looked beside him; How he was curled in toward him, his cheek pressed against Eddie’s arm, his breath tickling Eddie’s skin every time Buck breathed. He was snoring just the tiniest bit from the angle and Eddie knew he’d have a creek in his neck tomorrow.
Reaching out, Eddie prepared to move him to a more comfortable position, but right as his fingertips hovered over his arm, he hesitated, dangling in midair.
Not yet.
He didn’t want to ruin this.
