Shipwrecked after being ambushed by pirates, merchant Yusuf al-Kaysani must conceal his identity to find refuge at the court of Lady Andromache, who is known for only being attended by women after the sudden disappearance of her wife. As a tallish woman named Ophelia, Yusuf wins her graces.
Once Andromache learns of "Ophelia's" sliver tongue, she entreats Yusuf to a special kind of task - to fend off her apathetic suitor, Lord Nicolò, who seems to be set on the idea that they should marry. Or at least, his parents do. Nicolò, for his part, seems oddly taken with "Ophelia" - and Yusuf is torn between protecting his identity, and acting on his growing feelings.
Oh yeah, it's a Twelfth Night retelling, basically.

Chapter 13: The Boathouse
Lily Evans isn’t a morning person.
Her friends know it, Dumbledore knows it, and the naked man sleeping next to her knows it as well. They’re touching when she awakes this time, not just pinkies but swaths of skin. Arms and legs intertwine and tangle underneath her sheets as she drinks him in. She expected regret for the previous evening’s actions to be waiting for her to wake like a spectral scolding, but when her eyes fluttered open that morning, she was surprised to find that she didn’t feel it at all. Maybe, she wonders, it hadn’t just been a decision born of grief, but a new path.
Certain things are definitely new with James. She had known that he was no longer the lanky but athletic boy she’d once been close with before she left England. Now his frame had filled out with muscle that seemed to ripple through his skin, even though it had been months since he stopped playing Quidditch professionally. She’d seen it in flashes during a few scuffles with Death Eaters, especially since they seemed to have a fascination with hexing his skin. And now that she’s seeing it up close—and had felt it, licked it, drowned in it—Lily is sure that she has a different kind of fascination with it too.
Memories of the night before play in her mind. James picking her up and carrying her into her bedroom. Clothes making their way to the floor. One of his hands grasping tightly at her hip as he reached a toned arm over her to anchor his other hand onto her headboard. Thinking of it makes her squirm. It had been everything she thought it would be.
Everything.
She exhales in contentment, preparing to drift back to sleep when James begins to stir beside her. But when he opens his eyes, she freezes. He rubs at his eyes with the heel of his hand, wiping away the leftover dredges of sleep, but when they fall on Lily, she sees it clear as day: regret.
James mumbles an awkward apology as he disentangles their limbs and rolls over onto his back, staring at the ceiling before shutting his eyes tightly for a moment. Lily mirrors his actions, feeling the embarrassment sweeping over her as heavily as the blanket she is lying under.
“I guess we should talk about this.” Lily hates the defeated tone her voice takes on. She could kick herself right now. It’s one thing to know that sleeping with him may have been a bad idea, but she didn’t prepare for the aftermath to feel like this.
“Should we?” James asks. He is still looking up at her ceiling, avoiding eye contact. “It doesn’t change much, does it?”
“No.” Lily sighs. “No, I suppose it doesn’t.” Before this morning, Lily would have readily accepted this idea. But now, on the other side of things, she can’t avoid acknowledging how badly she wants things to change. Focusing on the idea that it was too late for the two of them had worked well at first. She had been so busy trying to avoid getting hurt, so preoccupied with building walls around her heart and her soul that she didn’t realize that she hasn’t felt alive in a very long time. But now, on the other side of the walls she erected, she can’t help but feel that she’s been coming back to life a little more every time they touch. Every time hands grazed each other while passing things across the table at meals, every hug given in greeting. A pinky colliding with hers while they slept. A kiss on the hand during a fly before dawn. A kiss pressed to her hairline, affirming her safety.
She’s never felt so alive. But living comes with pain, it seems, because the look in James’ eyes appears to scream at her: mistake, regret.
“I know you prefer to keep certain things…private,” James says hesitantly. “But I won’t tell anyone. Not even Sirius.”
Lily lets out a mirthless laugh. “Sirius knows you’ve been sleeping over here.”
James sighs. “Yeah, he said Dad mentioned I hadn’t been home. But I told Sirius that all we were doing was sleeping. The truth only made it worse, actually. I’ve been the butt of his jokes for days.” He looks irritated as he runs a hand through his hair, but then he takes a quick glance toward her. “I didn’t tell him last time, either.”
“I know.” Lily really does believe him, but she can't help how long ago "the last time" feels...
