A hip flask given to John on his 20th birthday, which took place during the Beatles first Hamburg visit, from Stuart Sutcliffe. In English it says “For Emperor John on his birthday 9 Oct 1960 from Stu.” The photo of all the boys in Harold’s Cafe was taken a couple of weeks before John’s birthday.

[Ken Dodd]

Liverpool comedian, Ken Dodd who has passed away on 11th March 2018. Here he is with the Beatles on the 9th October 1963, during a recording of The Ken Dodd Show radio programme at the BBC Paris Studio, London and Ken Dodd posing with the Madam Tussauds wax works of the Beatles. While the Beatles had the four UK top selling singles of the 1960s, Ken Dodd’s Tears took the fifth place. 

The Beatles & Ken Dodd interviewed by presenter Gay Byrne and talking about nonsense during a recording for Late Scene Extra and Scene At 6.30 in Manchester on 25th November 1963.

Photos taken on John’s 31st birthday, on 9th October 1971. John and Yoko were in Syracuse, New York for Yoko's art exhibition This Is Not Here opening to at the Everson Museum. Later that day a birthday party was held for John in his suite at Hotel Syracuse with Ringo, (and possibly Maureen?) Mal Evans, Allen Ginsberg, Eric Clapton, Phil Spector, Klaus Voorman, Neil Aspinal and Jim Keltner attending. An impromptu jam took place (and was recorded). Songs played included What'd I Say, Yellow Submarine (sung by Ringo), Like A Rolling Stone, a medley of 'Twist And Shout, Louie, Louie, Yesterday, Maybe Baby, Peggy Sue, Bring Out The Joints (a Lennon/Spector original), Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, Crippled Inside, Give Peace A Chance, Paul's Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey, George's My Sweet Lord, Imagine and more.

The Beatles celebrate John’s 24th birthday by stopping off at The Old England Hotel, Sutton-on-Trent en route to Bradford, Yorkshire. This was the first night of the Beatles 1964 UK tour.
