Novelty: Behind the Novel - When Hugh Met Lilith - {2/3}
Ayla: You ready to head out, Lilith? I need some sleep before this exam in the morning.
Lilith: Yeah, just give me a few minutes. I need to...use the restroom.
Ayla: Alright, I’ll just pull the car up.
Ayla leaves up the flight of stairs. Lilith didn’t need to restroom at all, but was a little too embarrassed to say she just wanted to talk to the guitarist of the band. Something about him peeked Lilith’s interest, plus she was genuinely impressed by the groups overall set.
Lilith: Hey, you all did great tonight!
Hugh instantly takes notice of her. He had seen her in the crowd and couldn’t deny he found her attractive. But naturally awkward with people, he didn’t really know how to flirt or even engage in conversations with strangers very well.
Hugh: Oh, um, thanks, we really appreciate it.
Ace: Yeah! I’m glad you enjoyed it! That nervous wreck who’s in front of you is Hugh. On drums is the brooding Elijah-
Elijah: Fuck off, I can spea-
Ace: -AS I was saying, the dad of the group, older brother of Eli, and bassiest is Isaiah-
Isaiah:(sighs) Hello, nice to meet you.
Ace:- and finally me, the wonderful Ace, lead singer.
Lilith chuckles at Ace’s antics. They had already proven themselves quite the character already.
Lilith: I’m Lilith. You all did exceptionally well. I was quite impressed. Hugh, you did really well with all those chord changes.
Hugh: (nervously laughs) Oh, I’m just the guitarist. I’m sure you noticed the others work more.
Lilith: There’s no need to depreciate yourself. Everyone has room to improve, like the beginning where your notes fell a little flat, but that doesn’t mean you’re not great. Without the guitar, the song follows no chords. Without the drums, the song loses rhythm and pace. Without the bass, the song loses feeling and depth in sound. Without vocals, the song loses meaning. Everyone is equal in a good band.
Elijah: I like her.
Ace: Me too! Lilith you really must grace us with your wisdom more often.
Hugh: Uh, we have a show next week if you’d like to come. Of course, you don’t have to come if you don’t-
Ace: Yes you do.
Lilith: (laughs) Sure, I’d love to come.
Me just randomly thinking about how there’s three unclosted gays in my very white very Christian very small town baptist very conservative and very homophobic family
