HEY YOU! want to know how to support Indigenous communities this Indigenous Peoples Day? Lets talk about the Ambler Road project.
The Ambler Road project is a proposed 211 mile long route cutting through Alaska from Dalton to the Ambler Mining District, in order to strip Alaska of its natural resources such as copper and cobalt. Under the Biden administration, this plan for The Ambler Road was rejected in 2024, only for the Trump administration to undo this decision and begin the process of building this road. NOW WHY IS THIS A BAD THING? This plan would disrupt and destroy the lands and lives of as many as 30 indigenous tribes located in Alaska, as well as causing irreversible harm to many native Alaskan species such as the Arctic Caribou, Salmon, Whitefish and Sheefish, all of which are important species to Alaska's ecosystems, and are also important food for Indigenous peoples in Alaska. The Ambler Road has been opposed by by no less than 89 Indigenous and First Nations tribes, and passed resolutions against it as well. It is also VERY unpopular with local non natives in the area. According to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, funding is to begin in spring of 2026. SO WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP? Lots of things! nativemovement.org has a petition here that can be signed! The site contains more information as well on the project and just how devastating it would be if it was brought to fruition. Brooks Range Council is fighting to halt progress as well and has great information posted on there site which you can find here. You can also donate to them through the same site! and finally noamblerroadaction.org is encouraging people to send substantial comments to the Bureau of Land Management, and provides a guide on how to build a substantial comment! The site can be found here. Please help us protest against this project and protect our lands and culture this Indigenous Peoples Day! @isuggestlandback
