AAA and dubbing fun facts (RarePairs!Edition)
I was rewatching AAA ep7 in my mother tongue (Spanish) for a little project, when I catched a line that made me laugh a little and remember why dubbing, while sometimes "steals" significant lines, sometimes can hide some unexpected treasures.
Remember this very neutral line?
In Spain someone decided to translate it as: "¡Nena, lo has hecho! ¡Nos has salvado!". Literally, "Baby, you did it! You've saved us!".
Now. Where does this completely unnecesary "Baby" come from? Why not stay with the original "Lilia"? No idea... but I love it.
That made me remember something I heard some time ago about the Latin American dubbing:
The best literal translation for this in the language would be something like "Había apostado por Lilia" ("I was betting on Lilia"), like they did in Spain. Instead, some other beautiful mind choose to change it to: "Mi favorita era Lilia" ("Lilia was my favourite"). Yep, you can choose to read that line as you wish.
Personally, I choose to find all this very funny and to think that someone in the European Spanish dubbing team was a Kalederu fan, while someone in the Latin American dubbing team was a Calderess fan. That's totally the most logical explanation, and not that someone was making random choices.
