She was still running high on adrenaline when they arrived at the coffee shop. It wasn’t too far from their initial encounter, in fact, it was just around the corner. A dark little coffee shop with a small seating area along the interior wall. Once past the threshold it had the all-too familiar smell of fresh ground coffee beans and a warmth one gets from such a place.
Nea picked a table closer to the rear wall of the building, so they could chat, uninterrupted. She scanned around the room, being as it was a weekday, there weren’t many patrons about, it should give the two enough distance and cover to chat without a care.
Fingertips traced the rim of the ceramic mug in front of her. She likely didn’t need the 3rd shot of pure espresso- being as her heart was still racing in her chest- but old habits die hard. She drew in a breath, making direct eye contact with him, Dwight. She could barely believe it really was him.
It had only been a year that she’d been back to reality, a year spent in isolation, wondering at first if she’d ever see any of them again, wondering if anyone was actually real or if it was all just a dream. Sitting across from him now, felt surreal. For once since the escape, she didn’t feel alone, she didn’t feel isolated from the world, She was finally in the company of someone who understood what it was like- A friend. Someone who knew firsthand what they’d suffered through. After all, he was the reason a lot lasted longer than they should have. She would never forget him, as much as she tried to purge her thoughts of everyone else.
Eyes closed slowly as she let out a slight scoff, casting a glance towards the exposed brick interior wall she was sitting against, “I really never thought I’d see you again..” A hand brushed fringe from her face and tucked it into her beanie. “Was never really sure if it got to you, or if you got out like most of us did.. Always had a fear it’d dump us all right back where we started, like nothing had ever happened..” She gestured with her hand and bit down on her lips, thinking about her parents and their reaction when she showed up on their doorstep, confused by how long it’d really been.
Though they were concerned, they soon threatened her with Institutionalization shortly after her return due to her deteriorating mental state and her denial that anything had happened to her. After many fights, Nea ran away once again, keeping them at arms length only. With a swig of the bitter coffee before her she glanced across the table.
“What about you, what have you been up to?”
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO

Day 10+11: Fire / Tears || Masterlist || Prompts by @fruit-of-infidelity ☯ Excerpt from Memory #10 ☯
——Too late.
It was too late.
As I stepped into the scene, I found something worse than anything I could have ever imagined. Rhiannon-sama's room, which I had cleaned and tidied earlier today, was in flames. Smoke filled my lungs as I gasped in exhaustion after the pointless rush trying to save the unsalvageable. I was too slow. Fire. Blood. My master's corpse. The manor I took care of for the last century and a half. My work, my task, the majority of my lifeless life... Everything disintegrating, being consumed before my eyes. Despite the scorching heat, for a good amount of seconds, I simply froze up. I couldn't think. Something inside me... hurt. Around my chest, around my throat. I hadn't felt pain in so long, and suddenly I felt myself burning, inside out. Suddenly it felt familiar, like a part of me I forgot about. Tears coming out unannounced, evaporating on the spot, were a reality check I didn't ask for, one that made me realize that I hadn't cried since... years, centuries, how long has it been? All I was certain of was that all that time and my effort were destroyed, and the four culprits were now approaching me. They took everything from me. The manor, my past, my work, my master, myself..., everything was ablaze. And, for the first time in who knows how long, I felt something inside me——
