Kinolett entry for the Ballroom Event by @bluerosethornrp ! I'm late since I had some busy last weeks but I still wanted to participate because couples dancing make me go feral 💕
Pairing: Scarlett/Kino. Kinolett.
Summary: Kino got invited to a Ball at the Demon World. It was decided that Scarlett would attend with him, but there is a problem... he has little-to-no experience in Ballroom dancing. Scarlett will gladly teach him all he needs to know to be a great dancer, before her own hidden insecurities flare up when she faces an event full of high-rank demons as a low-rank Ghoul herself...
Word count: 5.5k.
Warnings?: Long (7 short parts). Lots of fluff. Like one kiss per part. Canon-atypical supportive lovers. Insecurities and vulnerability from both sides. Implied impostor syndrome. Slightly suggestive scene. OC lore. Character growth (?).
A/N: It was going to be something short but I got carried away with the idea of Scarlett teaching Kino how to dance (+why she has to) and overall the bonding experience of overcoming Minor Inconveniences™ lmao. Those who aren't too familiarized with Scarlett may find bits of lore regarding her past as a servant and her Ghoul status getting the best of her, but I tried to make it the least ambiguous possible ^^; Hope you enjoy💕
🎶.
“One, two, three, one, two— No!”
The music stopped again, and with it the barely consistent dance session of the two. Although, at times it seemed like a dance lesson from teacher to student. To an extent, it was.
“You almost step on my foot again,” Scarlett sighed, holding the bridge of her nose with exasperation.
“But I didn’t,” Kino defended himself, also tired of the relentless orders, complaints, more detailed orders, repeat. He threw his head back to stretch his neck, holding his right shoulder to relieve some tension.
“You have been making the same mistake for a while, I can tell you were going to.”
“Maybe my teacher isn’t that good after all…” he mumbled, knowing the risk that it meant.
“Excuse me?” Scarlett glared at him. The harsh, offended look on her face was telling enough that Kino’s words hit where they intended, and Kino’s own growing grin helped the case. Questioning her musical knowledge –either around instruments or ballroom dancing– was something impossible for her to allow or let slide, “...again, from the top. Fix your posture.”
One, two, three, the Waltz began to play once more...
🧧.
It all had begun when Kino received some invitation to a Ball in the Demon World. Excited to have someone to go with this time as a proper attendee, he told Scarlett about it. The Ghoul was thrilled, wondering what to wear, how to arrange her hair, what makeup to use… and it soon became evident that, while Kino was part of the Demon Realm like many others, he hardly got invited to those events. And if he did, it never ended up well.
Maybe that’s why they stopped inviting him.
Scarlett could empathize with that, as she had attended those events as a Maid rather than an attendee. Considering her options, she asked a handful of questions about the events he did attend, and so she discovered Kino lacked skill in dances with a partner the most.
“It can’t be that bad,” she had said to this new information, knowing how he loved to over humble himself, albeit usually too much.
“...it can. I can only learn so much watching tutorials and having no real partner to dance with, you know?”
Admitting a lacking skill was harder than actually failing, there was no doubt in Kino's mind. Maybe that particular situation left in evidence how lonely he was most of his life, something he actively ignored on the daily, which made it worse. It had been a while since he was no longer alone, but that didn’t make it less humiliating to acknowledge.
Therefore, he had decided not to engage in the dancing and have fun with some other activity instead. Knowing that many important members of the Demon World were going to attend and he had no reason –so far– to ruin it, he did want to give a good impression. Or a better one. Especially when he could have someone by his side this time around.
Scarlett, however, had different plans.
🎶.
Back to the dancing lessons, it seemed like she was the one leading the dance all the time, something Kino wasn’t very amused about. He tried to follow the rhythm she marked and the instructions she gave, but it was too much new information too soon. One, two, left, right, forward, backwards, twirl? They never got to the twirl part.
“Slower,” her voice took him out of his mind, “you won’t learn faster if you do this faster, it doesn’t work like that,” he was about to protest with another snarky comment, but she continued, “if you really want to learn, follow my lead for now, okay?”
In the end, he said nothing. He did want to learn, he couldn’t let this be a failure by giving up. It was true that no one would know who taught who or how they learned... They probably wouldn’t even look at him! They never did unless he’d set up a scene, there were more important things to worry about, so, of course—
“Kino, you’re rushing again.”
“Ugh…” he sighed, they both did, “let’s take a break, I’m tired already.”
Scarlett looked at the time, “it’s been a few hours, I believe a break won’t hurt.”
The music was left playing at a lower volume. Kino flopped dramatically on the couch, she watched him mumble in annoyance.
“We still have a few days for you to learn…”
“I wanna learn nooow…” The cushion underneath his face muffled his frustrated whines. Scarlett shook her head, going over to the couch herself to sit down as well, but he occupied all of it. No matter how much she nudged him, he wasn’t moving.
So she sat on his back instead, like he sometimes did, and chuckled when he whined again.
“Haa… I’m tired too. You’re not making this easy…” Quick enough, she shifted positions, in a way that she’d lay flat on top of him. He uncovered his face, resting his head on its side while her own face laid on his shoulder. Kino sighed, deeply, “I won’t give up if you don’t. You will be the fruit of my tutoring, I can’t let that happen!”
“Hm,” the Vampire continued to be upset, “how did you learn this anyway? Was it this tough? No way.”
“Yes,” she closed her eyes, “when you have to teach your Young Lady, you are taught harshly. You either learn... or learn.”
“Well, I don’t have to teach anyone,” he pouted. His frustration knew no limits, he had to fight the urge to ragequit.
However, that silly remark made Scarlett think. It was true, there was no need for such a reckless lesson for him, it just happened to be the only way of learning she knew. “You may be right…” Think, think. She couldn’t make her lesson a videogame, and rushed or inconsistent practice only made everything worse. There had to be something else…
Ping!
“...what was that?”
“A notification,” Kino explained, not moving a muscle, “either my lives are full again, or I can claim my daily reward. I’ll check later. There’s no event today, so—”
Chu.
Scarlett kissed his cheek.
“—!? W-what, why?” Kino got caught off-guard, random kisses were still unexpected the majority of times. He didn’t dislike the feeling, but a ‘because I wanted to’ was hardly an excuse when he was in the middle of answering something she asked.
“A reward,” she said, serious. They made eye-contact, looking for something different on each other’s eyes; Kino tried to understand, while Scarlett tried to send her message across.
None of them got any answer.
“... ... ...huh?” After a while, Kino’s confusion became audible.
“We have this… Event. And you can get Rewards–” Kino had to hold back to not laugh at her poor attempt to make her lessons youth-friendly. Or modern-day-friendly, as none of them were particularly young. She sounded like a robot, but his interest was caught, “I will give you a kiss for every step you learn correctly. The more you accumulate, the better… right? O-or you can get a hug every ten kisses—?”
That was enough for Kino to burst out laughing.
“Hahahahaha!” Scarlett felt her cheeks reddening, did she get that wrong!? At the same time, she couldn’t even get mad when his pout became a laughter, “that was terrible, but nice try. Hahaha~” he took the chance to roll over so he could face her from below, “ahh… you’re so cute when you try to get on with the times.”
“Shut up…” She looked away, her attempt at getting angry completely failed, “I want you to learn too, yes…? You want me to teach you, so I will. Maybe sugar stars are a better reward?”
He chuckled more, his arms coiled around her in a hug, “how about you give me something I can’t get myself?”
Looking at how he leaned in closer for a kiss, Scarlett got the message. She should think about something else entirely, sweets and kisses were easily obtainable, indeed. Especially when asking without words like that seemed to be even easier for her to indulge.
“Well…” Her lips called for his, there was little she could do to deny it. However, one last sane thought crossed her mind and came out as a whisper moments before she’d get lost with him in a kiss, “you can’t seem to level up your dancing skills without me to begin with.”
“...Touché.”
☔.
One, two, three, one, two, three…
The two lovers continued to practice their dance every day. Kino was getting visibly better at it the more they danced around the house; Scarlett changed her approach to something more spontaneous. Music could start playing at any moment and any place, and he would have to earn a reward of his choice. For better or for worse, it worked.
Soon he started to lead more and more, until Scarlett had only a few details to correct that were rather unimportant. They switched waltz pieces to make sure he would follow the steps no matter the music playing. Admittedly, seeing the results of their practice had him in a better mood, and he boosted his knowledge with tutorials on the internet to make sure he’d be the best dancer of them all. Plus, to have his lover indulging him with whatever he asked her to played a big role in that change of attitude.
Nonetheless, the time they spent together learning and dancing put whatever reward he earned in a second place.
Now he wanted to dance everywhere. Not quite to practice, but to show everyone what he could do and how good he was at it. He started choosing when the music began to play, outside, by the window, at the kitchen... Scarlett enjoyed his excitement, not minding his antics most of the time as she eventually learned that it was close to impossible for him to constantly remain proper and well-mannered.
On the afternoon before the event, Scarlett was resting on the couch, rereading the invitation, while Kino looked outside the window at the rainy weather.
The sun was hidden behind the dark clouds as they poured relentlessly on the surroundings. After a while, the redhead joined him by the window, and, for a moment, the rain was all the noise between them, the distant thunders added variety to the otherwise white noise. Scarlett’s head rested on Kino’s shoulder and she half closed her eyes, enjoying his company in peaceful silence. Kino pulled her closer, together they admired the outside world being showered by the sky.
Whenever they found themselves like this, it was a silent agreement to say nothing; no comments, no questions, no pointing out how they simply yearned for the other’s proximity and nothing else.
It was Kino who broke the silence.
“Have you ever danced under the rain?”
Scarlett opened her eyes slowly, not judging the sudden question, but rather analyzing her answer.
“I have,” she whispered, “but… alone.”
The purposeful addition worked like a green light for him, who offered a wide smile before heading out with her.
Cold droplets didn’t take long to soak both dancers; between laughter and shudders from the freezing rain they began their last practice, with only weather and their own voices as the music, much more improvised than technical at all.
In no time it became nothing but an off-beat excuse of a dance, which Scarlett struggled to follow or predict at all, much to Kino’s amusement. He’d make her twirl without any warning, leading every part of that randomized dance, as if it was some sort of payback for when he had to follow instead— but, not quite. Perhaps in the past, that would be something his mind would scheme, and while it was certainly similar, one thing made a big difference: they both were having fun now, together.
Scarlett’s usual need for control and structure got vastly attacked, and it was moments like those where she realized she couldn’t care less. She taught him something useful, and he learned it enough to know how to break its own rules. A win in her book.
In the midst of their little moment, a thunder illuminated the sky before loudly striking, taking both by surprise. Scarlett instinctively looked up, as if she was angry at the sky for ruining their moment. He simply snickered.
“Scared?” He asked, in a tone that could have been a whisper, were they in silence. She only sighed after rolling her eyes, “let’s go back inside, it’s almost time.”
“Right…” even after all they did to the awaited event, she almost didn’t want to go anymore. But then again, because of all the did, she couldn’t step back, “can I have one last thing from you?”
He attracted her body to his, reading her mind, “Oh, I don’t know… can you?”
“Please?” Her soaked face pleaded subtly, and he wished he had his phone to capture that expression. The water had smudged most of her makeup, it was both funny and adorable. And a little scary.
👗.
With nothing else to add, he lifted her up in his arms to grant a wish they happened to share quite often. Her hands cupped his face with adoration, and so they both shared a messy kiss under the rain.
A few hours later, Scarlett found herself in front of the mirror, fixing her earrings. They had taken a bath after coming back inside, and she took a lot of time doing her hair right after. Kino has been ready for while now, and his impatience mixed with his anticipation to show off had him restless.
She was taking too long.
As she gave the final touches to her makeup, Kino made his way into the room, walking over until he has right behind her, both facing the mirror. Scarlett offered a smile when she looked at his reflection, which became a surprised one when he embraced her from behind. Her higher heels made the height difference much smaller, so he had easier access to the crook of her neck to hide his face in.
“What are you doing?” Her soft giggle was hard to hold back, his hair tickled her, “I’m almost done!”
“I’ve waited enough,” using that as all the given warning, he bit down on her neck. The sharp puncture of his fangs triggered a cry from the Ghoul, her body tensing instantly as he held her in place.
“Protocol,” he shrugged, leaving a few kisses on her now reddened skin, “if you get lost they’ll return you to me.”
“W-what now…!?” She managed to say, controlling her breath the best she could until she was released. He hadn’t drunk too much, but the mark was visible, even after he licked off the overflowing blood from the new wound.
“That is not how it works.”
“And I know you won’t get lost anyway,” he simply continued to display his affection. He smiled in secret when he noticed the makeup brush ended up on the floor; he had successfully gotten her attention only for him. Now he had to keep it, “...you can mark me too. I know you want to.”
Something within Scarlett’s insides moved at that suggestion. Of course she wanted to, but when they were supposed to go out shortly…?
“...are you hesitating? Did you actually catch a cold?” Kino’s hand touched her face, in clear satire.
“...Please. You know whatever mark I do to you will heal by the time we get there,” she picked up the brush from the floor, putting it aside and picking up her perfume next, “unlike this one.”
One splash of her citric perfume at each side of her neck, below her ears, and she was finally ready. Kino admired her in silence, but he caught how that expression of hers changed right before his eyes.
“Then make another one,” he suggested, resting both hands on her hips, “and repeat when it happens again. Easy.”
“I’m not trying to make a scandal there…” they both knew how dangerous overfeeding could be. She could easily give a worse reputation to Ghouls than they already had with so little effort.
Besides, she wouldn’t be able to hide her nature as she did in the Human World to begin with, for her eyes and ears would expose her immediately in the Demon World.
Bottom line, if they could hurt her, they would. She could never lower her guard. Despite being aware of how things were different now, it was still a ghost from the past that refused to leave.
Truth be told, some questions and insecurities never left her mind, despite many of her experiences saying otherwise. Demons looking down on her -or him, as her lover– due to her status was certainly possible, hierarchies were all most of them cared about, after all. She could outsmart most people and brush any ill-intentioned comment aside, but little did it matter when they'd poke her confidence wall, easily shattering it to pieces with their clear superiority, because of the tag that her nature carried around.
The redhead Ghoul leaned on her lover, silently asking for comfort.
“You think too much,” he commented as he held her hand and brought it to his lips to kiss her knuckles, “more than any of the airheads attending that party. Focus on me, alright? Let’s just dance.”
She breathed in, taking his scent, the smell of his blood flowing through those veins under the skin of his neck, presented right in front of her. Thinking too much. He was probably right, she had to think more than feel to get where she was. Maybe she should do it less once in a while…
Scarlett nodded before gripping onto him tightly and plunging her fangs into the soft flesh of his neck. She felt his body tensing, letting out grunts between gasps for the sudden action of her own mark being mercilessly bestowed upon him.
🥂.
The night didn’t take long to arrive and send both individuals to the Demon Realm. Scarlett held Kino’s hand tightly, and he hid both their hands inside the large pocket of his coat. He was confident that it would go well, and for once he almost needed to be confident for both of them. He’s got this.
A frilly white shirt showed beneath a long leather coat embracing the frame of the Vampire, with an all-white undone scarf decorating the overview of his attire –while barely hiding a certain bite scar on his neck–, along with a few necklaces and a shiny pair of black trousers. His hair was messy as always, but a good-looking way of messy, adding to the laid-back vibe, to his standards.
The woman by his side shared a similar choice of colors, always letting her vibrant red hair be the protagonist of all her outfits. A sleeveless dress with a black top and a puffy white skirt with black undertones dressed the Ghoul elegantly in tune with her partner. A pair of long black gloves decorated her arms and a plain black choker surrounded her neck, not big enough to fully cover a bite mark left on her skin. She had her hair collected with not many wild hairs poking out, long hours of fixing that issue made sure of it. Despite her subtle makeup, given that the party was being held within the Demon World, the white of her eyes had tainted themselves obsidian in color, and her ears grew pointy the moment they arrived, showcasing the Ghoul nature she couldn’t possibly hide in that place.
Both arrived at the place hand-in-hand. Scarlett looked up at the building, trying to relax while Kino didn’t slow down the pace of his walk. His eyes shone reflecting the multiple lights of the place, a sight that she could catch whenever he looked back at her if she suddenly slowed down. He was excited, undeniably, and she couldn’t help but sigh with tenderness.
Many known and unknown faces filled the main hall and the subtly decorated stairs, the entire building drowned in crowded noise, random chatter and strident laughter, all the demons gathering seemed to be minding their business with those they happened to know.
However, Scarlett’s keen eye didn’t fail to catch eyebrows raising, noses wrinkling, side eyes looking into her direction before going back to gossiping with one another. Even if her scent wasn’t as strong as it could be if she kept living at Rotigenberg, it still was a Ghoul’s scent. Dismal, bitter, obvious.
Maids and butlers walked around serving drinks and snacks to the attendees, and that made everything more painful. Most, if not all, of those servants were Ghouls. To think that if it wasn’t for fate’s wild turn of events, she could still be one of those people... That memory made her heart sink into a void of some unrecognizable feeling.
Her hand squeezed Kino’s, who got himself two glasses of what looked like champagne. He turned to see her, finding an absent-minded girl looking at everything and nothing at the same time.
He flashed both glasses in front of her face to catch her attention, they made a cling sound, “is anyone home?”
The Ghoul blinked, her darkened gaze turned to meet her partner. His expression solemn and calm became her now point of focus, further below was the mark she had made on him, their hands were still intertwined, and he offered a glass to share.
She accepted it, “I apologize.”
“Why are you apologizing?”
Scarlett shrugged, looking away. That wasn’t like her at all, like she forgot how to be herself under that wave of judgmental stares. She wanted to ignore them and tell them off, but that wouldn’t work. If anything, it’d feed their amusement, making it all the more frustrating to deal with the status gap.
“They look at you because you look better than them,” Kino suddenly added, smelling the content of his glass, “and they look at me because they are jealous.”
She couldn’t help but snort, “how can you be so sure of that?”
Kino shrugged this time, bringing his glass between them, “why wouldn’t they be jealous of us?” Scarlett looked away, struggling to believe it, and also frustrated for not doing so, “everyone is underdressed, of course they are jealous of this Prince and his Princess.”
“Stop that…” she couldn’t hide her flushed reaction, her fangs poking out beneath her lips, “you don’t have to do that.”
“I have to because I’m right. They hate us. Try it!”
“Kino, I think you are projecting.”
“They wish they were me,” he continued, “they wonder how I became this lucky…”
Kino was the one looking away now, at the others, at nothing. Most likely projecting, but he wouldn’t know. Ugly thoughts attacked him as harshly and often as they attacked her, although he did a better job –or so he hoped– pretending otherwise.
Red lipstick left a subtle stain on his cheek when the Ghoul gave him a smooch, “that’s enough. I believe you…”
“Cheers, that would certainly make them jealous...” they proceeded to clink their glasses and take a sip, focusing on each other as if the entire place and its people had disappeared.
They shared a knowing glance, both their glasses brought close, “that’s the spirit. Wait until they see us dance! Cheers?”
🩸.
They planned to head to the ballroom, they had intentions to go, the time was right… but something happened in the middle, they momentarily got sidetracked.
An overstressed Scarlett had enough drinks to get tipsy, and soon she began to chew on her lover’s neck to redo her mark. Kino didn’t do much to stop her, in fact, he encouraged her actions thoroughly, which involved a more private space.
Inside a room perhaps half as big as the main ballroom, illuminated only by the dim light coming from a few candles carefully distributed on the walls, soft gasps and muffled moans of delight were the only proof that someone was inside.
Scarlett was sitting on Kino’s lap as they both laid on the floor, after a careless pounce of the hungry Ghoul that made them lose balance; her arms surrounded the Vampire while her fangs were now forcefully attached to the flesh of his shoulder, chewing and sucking the life essence hidden within.
Kino wasn’t a pain-lover, but something about being desired like that made it much more endurable, and the intimacy of bloodsucking drove him crazy. With both hands on the cold floor, supporting his body from behind, he tried to remain relaxed and not make it more painful than it needed to be, he let her taste him, eye-closed, knowing well that people were passing by at all times right behind those closed doors. Part of him wanted them to see how desperately someone needed him, while the other wanted to keep the moment for himself only. Alas, the thrill was there, and he wasn’t afraid to let his voice get a little louder to possibly catch some curious ears from the other side.
“Quiet down,” Scarlett’s voice ordered amongst heavy breaths of her own, tasting the deliciously sweet flavor of his blood, “we’re in public…”
“That’s the best part,” he teased, shifting his vocal expressions closer to her ear, and enjoying the way she shivered from them, “let them know, I don’t care…”
“I do,” she bluntly replied, “I don’t want anyone to see you like this,” she moved away a little. The blood continued to overflow from the multiple bites on his bare skin in a messy display of violent yearn, red droplets traveled down his collarbones and chest, since she had removed his white shirt to avoid staining it. Like that, covered in his blood and her marks, he looked absolutely delicious in her eyes, and he probably knew it.
“Why not…? I’m such a snack~” his sing-song tone challenged, his head thrown back, as if inviting her to continue.
“Because…” Frustrated, Scarlett held up his chin, and her blood-red lips whispered against his mouth, “this sight is something only for myself to see.”
Loving the sudden hitch of his breath, the Ghoul grinned and leaned in for another kiss, taking full advantage of the fact that he couldn’t bite her while she was in that form without consequences, not until they got back to the Human World. For now, Kino was left with a kiss of his own blood, and the knot in his stomach caused by her possessive words.
💃🏻.
Not too long after, when no more noise came from the halls, they stepped out of their hiding place in time to notice that the event had already started. Chopin’s Waltz no. 2 echoed from the ballroom, and Scarlett had no time to process any anxiety as Kino held her hand and ran towards their destination and dragging her with him.
“Ready?” He asked once at the entrance, hardly waiting for an answer, although she nodded anyway.
The place was full of couples circling many areas, dancing together in the entire place. Kino was the first to step inside, taking pride in having arrived late, since many eyes were on them now. Scarlett followed suit, ignoring the rest of the audience and only focusing on how Kino wanted to dance at the very center of the room.
Zigzagging amongst other dancers, it was made evident that he lacked etiquette overall in those events. But it no longer mattered. After finding an empty spot, he left Scarlett’s hand to go for a moment to face her and properly invite her to dance.
“May I have this piece?” One arm behind his back and the other reaching out for her to take her hand, he bent 45 degrees forward when she vividly followed his game, as rushed as it was.
“You may,” Scarlett didn’t hide her amusement, it was the first time she got invited to dance like this, little did it matter how it played out. They positioned themselves as they had practiced, the Ghoul’s hand elegantly laid on the Vampire’s shoulder and the other held his, while his own free hand found its place on her waist. She looked up as if waiting for the exact beat to start, then quickly started marking each beat with her head, mouthing, “lead me?”
Kino’s expression got more serious and determined. He’s got this.
Steady, accelerating, slowing down, following their timeless practice they began to dance and mix with the other dancers while, in their heads, they continued to stand out in the best of ways. They neatly followed the rhythm of the piece, and Scarlett’s happy smile was brighter than the luxurious jewels any other Demon wore. As though music controlled her movements from the inside, it showed how her passion for music brought her utmost joy.
By the time that piece ended, he made her perform a longer twirl, a non-scheduled move that caught her by surprise once she was found back in his arms. Her fingers grasped the fabric of his sleeves, watching, expecting, until he leaned in for an awaited kiss that lasted until the next piece started. After all, he earned it.
💓.
The two continued for as long as they were allowed to. Scarlett only needed the first notes to figure out the piece they were about to dance to next and quickly mark the tempo. Chopin’s Grande Valse Brillante, Tchaikovsky’s Valse Sentimentale, Shostakovich’s Waltz, no. 2… Kino found it amusing how she’d name them before they even started, like she was a fan of all those classical guys. They had actual musicians playing for the event, something that seemed to fill the redhead with more nostalgia and passion for the dance.
After a few pieces that never seemed long enough, the musicians took a break and the attendees could have a snack or a drink if they wished.
Kino didn’t move from the center of the room, however. He remained in place for a little longer, hugging Scarlett and swinging side to side despite having no music.
“I was right,” he whispered after a while, “they are jealous. They better be.”
She simply giggled at the comment, “maybe, but that no longer matters. Did you have fun?”
“I did,” he quickly responded, “...how was it?”
“Excellent,” she left yet another kiss on his cheek, “I have the best dancer with me tonight, I did a wonderful job teaching you~.”
Kino chuckled, “of course. Aren’t I the best learner ever?”
“You certainly are,” she assured, hugging his arm when they separated, as Kino’s chest filled with pride for the acknowledgement.
Before saying anything else, a Maid offered them drinks.
Scarlett locked eyes with the Ghoul maid, both pairs of obsidian glances stared into one another, and she felt as though she was looking into a mirror of the past, with a sole difference…
That Ghoul wanted to say something. She bowed to them after Kino grabbed the drinks, “if I may…” Scarlett’s ears perked up, she made a gesture inviting the maid to keep going, “... to see one of us on the dance floor was... refreshing. I could not take my eyes off you, Young Lady… and Young Master. Excuse my intrusion.”
One more bow, and Scarlett was too shocked to speak. When the Maid turned around, she called her over, “excuse me…!” even though she felt the need to speak, she had no idea what to say now that the Ghoul looked back. She babbled nonsense until one coherent thing came out, “...th… thank you! Keep doing a good job, okay?”
In response, she received a big smile and a nod from the Maid before she continued with her duties.
“Oh~ See? It was good that you’d come with me…,” Kino embraced her from behind, Scarlett continued to stay quiet, “...I don’t think that was jealousy.”
“...it wasn’t,” she whispered. If anything, it felt as though she had inspired someone by putting herself out there, making everything she’d been through worth it in a second. Kino hugged her tighter, making her squeal, “...i-if you do that I’m going to cry, can you hug me later?”
“... …,” he nibbled at her ear, “you won’t cry.”
Whatever his intention was, her eyes became watery regardless, but now a sob came out with a big smile on her lips.
“...no, wait!?” Scarlett giggled when Kino started to panic.
“Ha, I warned you.”
Kino looked everywhere, looking for some distraction to stop the waterfall, quick, “ah! Come here, they have peaches.”
“They do!?” Quite a quick recovery, her gloves gently dried her eyes before they ruined her makeup. Close call, she did not want to cry.
They wandered off to the snack area to take a break from everything that had taken place as of late… and gain some energy before another round of ballroom dance. The night has improved a lot, for both of them.
Kino got approached by others on occasion too, she watched him brag about his outstanding dancing skills while she stuffed her mouth with peach slices. At a terrible timing, he walked over to her.
“Yeah! I came with my beautiful—”
Scarlett covered her peach-filled cheeks as the demons she was introduced to stared in silence. She waved at them, trying to eat faster.
“...girlfriend,” Kino chuckled, then pinched her cheeks, “she likes peaches. Isn’t she cute?”
“Mmmhm!!”
They laughed and teased the two, Scarlett found no malice in that exchange. Or, perhaps, she didn’t care anymore. After eating her peaches, she introduced herself properly, and got more accepted than she expected. She even got to learn that apparently those guys happened to be Kino’s... brothers!?
May I request about Scarlett‘s reaction when her s/o has social aniexty? like refusing to talk a lot
When answering a question s/o just nodded (as yes) or shakes head (as no)

Is it you’re first time writing an oc x s/o?
Mun: Hi, thanks for your request! It is the first request with an s/o, yes. I have written a few unrelated reactions in the past, and there are some Scarlett x gn!s/o scenarios with a similar format in the Yandere Au (Don't worry, this won't be as dark LOL). But I'm totally okay with getting requests like these!
When it comes to someone who is shy but clearly trusts Scarlett more than others, her protective side will flare up instantly. If she grows to love someone, she wants to see them happy and comfortable by her side, regardless of their personality.
Scarlett is quite extraverted, so she enjoys going out for dates and hanging out with people. However, if her s/o doesn’t feel comfortable in such scenarios, she would be willing to adapt the plans for both of them to have a good time. For example, if they go out they would be in a less crowded place, maybe sitting together in an isolated spot of a big park, going to a library or somewhere else quiet, or just walking around as she talks or ask them questions.
She likes to talk and won’t mind doing the talking or making the decisions in social situations, but she would also try to make them speak up more to possibly overcome that anxiety little by little.
“This place is lovely, isn’t it?” Scarlett asked them after talking for a while, as they walked together through the park during the evening. The place was lit up, the sky still had some purple-ish hues as the sun was hiding; crickets were out and few people were passing by here and there. While it wasn't super noisy and crowded, it still had some life.
To answer her question, they simply nodded with a brief ‘mhm’ that she caught right on time. They were holding her hand firmly and kept the other one close to their body; even though they seemed interested at times, they also looked uneasy.
“We should go to a café someday,” she suggested, “I know a few places that have delicious treats and coffee. Would you like that?”
Same response, but a little more delayed. After a while dating them, though, Scarlett learned that the slight delay meant hesitation, usually not as positive of an answer as it appeared to be at first.
“Cats or dogs?” she suddenly inquired, her eyes fixed ahead. She intended to catch them off guard by giving no context with her harmless question, while also preventing them from a yes/no answer.
It seemed to work enough to make it hard for them to formulate any coherent word, only repeating ‘uhm’s trying to understand what she meant, fearing they would make her wait too much and what if they liked birds more...? ...although, they struggled for less time than they thought they were, and Scarlett soon let out a chuckle and stopped walking, “are you good?”
They now wouldn’t look at her, which made her glance soften, “hey,” she called, kissing their nose when they looked in her direction again, “no one is looking at you, just me. It is not that big of a deal, so… words, please?”
After a short moment of fidgeting, looking down with their face feeling warm, they managed to give a low, soft-voiced, slightly insecure answer: ‘cats?’ And that alone made Scarlett smile widely, before giving them another kiss, this time on their forehead.
“Perfect! Cat café it is,” she held their hand and resumed walking, practically dragging them out of the park.
In no time, she noticed how much more anxious they were starting to get, as it was to be expected, “calm down, baby. I won’t take you there now. Or tomorrow. Or the day after. Not anytime soon, I don’t want you to have a heart attack…”
Looking into their direction again, she squeezed their hand with a smile, “we will go home now, okay? One word is better than no words, you did well. I still want to hear your voice more when we go out, not just at home… Well, we have all the time in the world for that,” she booped their nose with hers, taking advantage of the proximity to whisper, “Someday in the future maybe you will get to invite me on a date. Where? To a cat café, of course. It’s decided!” Joyful, she swung their arms as they began to make their way home, “Fufu~ I know you will come to realize that people can’t bite you any harder than me,” She chuckled, fangs briefly poking out before she let out a sigh, “...I won’t let anyone hurt you, dear. Rest assured.”

Yiippeee, he's done and on the same day too!! It's been a gloomy day today, but the cozy weather really enabled me to focus on this art without too much distraction! Although I missed last years, I'm super pumped to get into more art for Ryuuto again ><
what if yuuri went to school with kino and the others :3c kino would make him carry his textbooks lol. I can picture him excitedly introducing yuuri to the other students like "he's a reallyyyy good servant! ^^" and everyone assumes yuuri is being bullied lmao
