Rin grew up in a higher level district of the Rukongai where crime of all kinds was not uncommon and grew to be a familiar aspect of life. One does whatever they must in those types of places-- hence the beginning of a life that was sure to be forever surrounded by violence.

Upon realizing that she possessed more spirit energy than most other souls, she acted upon it and joined the Academy to become a Shinigami, where her skills and rule-oriented attitude would be useful and accepted. A gifted student, Rin graduated two years earlier than most, completing her course work in 4 years instead of the usual 6.

She was first placed into the Eleventh Division, where fighting was on every soldiers mind. That division only ever wanted to fight-- a bunch of battle hungry hot heads. At first, it did not seem so bad, but it grew more and more obvious that her personality clashed with many of her squad members, as did her Zanpakutou (which was odd, as it resembled a gun when released, and did not fit in with the Eleventh Division unspoken rule of ‘only melee type fighting’), and she was transferred.

The Second Division was her new home, where she was welcomed and grew in the ranks. The strict rules set forth by the Captain, Soi Fon, and the regimented life fit well. As the division specialized in stealth, reconnaissance, and assassinations, her abilities were well suited and fit for any task she was assigned.

She’s respected by many, but also has many friends that she tries to hang out with after duties. Rin looks up to her captain and the two frequently have discussions about love-- and then never speak of it aloud ever again.
