I think that one article about Stede and plantations actually helped me realise a bit why the idea of Ed and Stede settling in for a nice, non-pirate life bothers me so much. Like. Ed doesn't come from a rich bg. Even if the real life Blackbeard was English, OFMD Ed is portrayed, as we all very well know, by Taika, who isn't white which would make this fictional version of Ed also not white. He wants fine things, yes, but I don't think he would be willing to pay the price of a life like Stede's (pre going pirate) because the people being hurt in the process aren't the rich upper class twats Ed is usually fighting against but rather those whose abuse is what supports the lifestyle of those rich upper class twats. To me, Ed being fine with that would sort of. break everything? I don't really know how to put it tbh. He comes from a certain bg and has seen some of the injustice of the world, grew up understanding that there are people who bath in riches and have an abundancy of everything while others have close to nothing. He's bitter about that. It has shaped him so much as a person. Poverty in itself is also literally traumatising. So yes, he wants fine things and a fine life but I feel like it would go against who he is if he could turn his back to the life he's lived so far, to the people he's been a part of, and go live a comfortable life full of fine things somewhere with Stede. I need his anger over the injustice he knows to be there to be more meaningful to him than his desire for a life full of fine things. In the end he can combine the two like he's been doing with Stede so far, and maybe that would be the best option for them.

okay so we (me and my two bros) are home alone.
the alarm we have (ding whenever a door opens) set off and it was none of us.
we went downstairs, (leaving the lil’ bro upstairs jic) and when we turned the lights on they turned off again. we turned them back on. there was nothing down there. there’s no one in the house but us. the doors are locked. the lights turned on again.
