I hope I don’t sound like a shill, but I’m getting slightly annoyed by all the “why didn’t Capcom just use the fan translation’s names? Clearly they did it to spite us/disrespect the fan translation team!”
You do realize…that’s not as easy as it sounds, right? Capcom doesn’t want to be sued and can’t just use a popular fan translation’s names willy-nilly without risk of plagiarism accusations. They could get away with it without fear if they struck a deal with the fan translation team, but from what I gather they’ve been off the web for a while now so that wasn’t really an option even if Capcom wanted to.
Before you get the wrong idea, this is NOT to say the official localization is above criticism or that you’re not allowed to express your preference for the fan translation’s names (I myself am getting whiplash). Yes, the best-case scenario would’ve been if Capcom was able to strike a deal to use the fan translation, or better, if they localized AAI2 a LOT sooner instead of waiting 13 years. Just please think before saying “They should’ve used the fan translation’s names!” or assuming there was any malice or disrespect involved in not using it.

Spoilers for Ace Attorney Investigations 2!
So I'm playing Investigations 2 for the first time (just finished the third case!) and I was listening to some of the soundtrack (general Ace Attorney, not specifically that game) and I randomly read somewhere that Simon Keyes's theme is called something along the lines of "great mastermind of the game" or something. And at first I thought that's funny but then ... what if that was actually a spoiler and he really IS the villain? I already know that Sebastian's dad who is also the Chief Prosecuter is The Bad Guy (because spoilers), but that doesn't mean there can't be another one.
And then, it clicked and I suddenly connected the dots. I already figured that the two sons of the pastry chefs from case 3 need to be relevant again somehow, and I suddenly remembered that Simon said he and Knightley were friends because they were the only family they really had and ... of course he and Knightley are their sons! I think it should work out with their ages and everything!
So yeah that's my current theory. Not sure if that means Simon is actually somehow responsible for Knightley's death ... maybe he works for that assassin guy? I guess for Knightley it also explains why he worked for the president of Zheng Fa, since his dad lived there for a while and they both share the same trait of really wanting to be the best at something and even killing for it.
But yeah, I'm excited to see if my prediction is correct.
