Earl Hines "Up To Date With Earl Hines" ハインズ奇跡の復活の力を体感するアルバム。 私のアイドル、アール・ハインズは2枚目。隠れ酩盤的な作品？ネットにあまり情報がないのが不思議... 十八番が収録されていないから？ 1964年11月5,6日、RCA Victor's Studio C, NYC.録音。Dynagroove Recordings RCA Victor ‎(LPM 3380)、本盤はRCA Jazz Spirit 1300 Seriesと言う日本再発盤。 まずは、録音評から... 特に低音域の再現性が素晴らしい！控え目なのですが、しっかりとしたベースが、厚みを増しています。各楽器のバランスも曲ごとに実にお見事！ カートリッジは、中低音域の量感と温かみでShure SC35Cで一番お薦め。高音域までナチュラルなバランス重視ならSumico Pearl、管楽器の音色はShure M44-7を。針圧の軽いカートリッジだとビリつく楽曲があるので要注意。左からピアノ、センターにベースとドラムス、右から管楽器。管楽器の入らない1-2, 2-4は、左からベース、センターからピアノ、右からドラムス。 演奏は... 全体的にはのんびりムード、オーソドックスでありながら、しかし古臭くなく、ハインズとしてはモダンで新鮮な感覚が若々しい作品です。要はポテンシャルが並みではない証。安定したクオリティ、安心して寛げる本作に★私的名盤記念すべきNo. 70を！ ほとんどがSP時代のような2,3分の短い楽曲、もうお仕舞い？残念... なんて思うほど、あっという間に聴き終えてしまいますが、これもいいアルバムの特長です。楽しんで欲しいと言うサイン付のハインズのメッセージが嬉しい。 #EarlHines (p) #AaronBell (b) #JimmyCrawford (ds) #BuddJohnson (ts,bs,ss Side 1-1,4,6 Side 2-1,2,5) #RayNance (vin,cor Side 1-3,5 Side 2-3,6) Produced by #BradMcCuen Recording Engineer - #BobSimpson Liner Notes - #StanleyDance Photography [Liner] – #JerryDantzic さて、本作を知るには彼のヒストリーを若干遡る必要があります。1951年秋にルイ・アームストロング・オール・スターズを退団、自己のコンボを結成しNYのクラブで演奏したり各地を楽旅、50年代半ばからは西海岸を中心に、57年秋にはヨーロッパ遠征するなど精力的に活動。60年に入るとサンフランシスコ近くのオークランドに家族と共に暮らし、ほぼほぼ引退状態に... 自身で経営するクラブなどで主に演奏活動を。1964年3月初旬、友人の勧め？でNYの｢リトル・シアター｣で、ピアノ・トリオでのコンサートを3日間開催、これが一般聴衆のみならず評論家やミュージシャンなどから熱狂的な称賛を獲得、いわゆる｢復活リサイタル｣。これを機会に｢バードランド｣などのNYのクラブに次々に出演。翌65年春にはベルリン・ジャズ・フェスティバルに招待、テレビ出演やレコーディングにと目覚ましい活躍。米国内でもニューポートやモンタレイに出演、さらなる称賛を浴び、遂には同年の｢ダウンビート｣誌における国際評論家投票でジャズ・ミュージシャンとして最高の栄誉である｢ホール・オブ・フェイム(名声の殿堂)｣入りを果たし、俗にいう｢ハインズ奇蹟の復活｣が叫ばれるようになったと... 。 そもそもハインズは、ピアノ・プレイのみならずビッグ・バンドもまとめる、もっと評価されていいはずの大実力者。ハインズの本質を知っているファンからすれば、不思議なことですが、西が流行っている時には東に、東の時代には西で活動と言う逆の状況が、彼が目立つことのなかった要因のひとつだそうです。 で、本作... ｢リトル・シアター｣での大成功の後のハインズのレコーディング・ブームのトップを切った録音で、かつて彼のバンドに在団していたバド・ジョンソンとレイ・ナンスをゲストに迎えた再会セッション！なのです。まさにタイトル通り当時"Up To Date"=最新のハインズが聴ける作品。 録音のプレイ・バックを聴きながらハインズがジョンソンに... ｢まるで、楽器でもってお互いに話し合っているように聴こえるね｣と言ったように、リラックスした雰囲気で油の乗り切ったハインズの気心知れた仲間同士で吹き込まれた素晴らしいセッションとなったと。どうですか？もっと評価しませんか？ #jazz #fuzey #vinyl #jazzvinyl #vinylcollection #jazzrecords #recordcollection #ジャズ #スイングジャーナル #レコード ※作品を知り、ジャズの素晴らしさを伝えたい。様々なソースをアレンジ、先輩諸氏に感謝。 https://www.instagram.com/p/B36bKocjnxl/?igshid=1ax6e2o4f981s
