A brother, a sister and a friend — Paperfangs is a collective of three daydreamers from Helsinki and Tampere. Their inspiration comes

from old movies, visual arts, geometric shapes, late night biking trips, vintage girl groups, chamber pop and shoegaze as well as the latest indie gems.

Here's an educated guess, Paperfangs will be one of Finland's next underground stars abroad and join the ranks of Zebra and Snake, Huoratron and Jaakko Eino Kalevi.

Completely different genres, but all indie (or finndie) and all making excellent music that unfortunately won't make the shallow mainstream but will be much appreciated by the right crowd.

Paperfangs is a three member band and includes the names Jyri, Tarleena and Mikko. Jyri seems to be some sort of graphic designer which explains the carefully thought out looks and presentation of the band. Their home base seems to be Tampere.

They've just released their debut EP called AAVVAV (also available on limited edition cassette), which includes the song in the video called Lifelong. Besides from that tune the EP includes five other songs of which three are completely new.

If you like echoing nostalgia with samples (I'm suddenly reminded of The Avalanches and the song Frontier Psychologist) and that special touch of the 2010's this probably is your thing. And you'll find them here on Tumblr as well. Yes, very hipster indeed, but that's not a bad thing.

Paperfangs | Valleys and Peaks

How about some sugar-coated, sample-fest pop to lure you out of the darkness and into these early weeks of Spring? I wouldn't say no. Loved-up Finland-based Paperfangs have singlehandedly erased a manflu that was beginning to develop, lifting me out of the ether and into the morning sun. 'Valleys and Peaks' is part synth-heaviness, part Scandinavian vocals, complete unadulterated joy.
