One would think angels had ways of alleviating the pain of childbirth; one would be wrong.

Cassiel’s pregnancy and the birth were much like any human’s, because it was a human baby they carried. They screamed and cursed and their hands clenched and they felt like they were tearing in half. But when the ordeal was over, the baby in their arms and their partner allowed back into the room, they felt it: a sort of fulfilling warmth, a burning dedication to protecting this child and all children to come after, a bewildering adoration intensified by the aching of their body.

They convinced God to allow them to stay, experiencing a form of parenthood altered by the royal standing they held in this life and the divinity of their existence. They raised the baby–Uther–as best they could, ignoring the constant pull of Heaven. Cassiel’s departure, though they had time to prepare, rent their soul, and though they returned to their job at God’s warrior, they always had one eye turned to their son, their grandson, their legacy on this world.

They watched their progeny become greater than themselves; the Pendragon line surpassed history and became legend, and Cassiel’s role faded away with time. Though the memory of holding their child is not as strong as it once was, they experience fondness for children beyond what would commonly be expected of an angel in their sphere. Cassiel is excellent with babies, betraying gentleness and a soothing atmosphere that would make them a phenomenal nanny were they ever to become mortal.

(Cassiel would never speak it, but they sympathize with Raphael, never faulting him his decision to be with the one he loved and experience a real family. Cassiel is one of the rare angels to have that life and then leave it–and they will always feel that slight tear in their insides when they remember that part of their past.)

There is tons Belial likes about Abaddon, but just as much that he dislikes. She’s interesting and chaotic, but she’s also loyal and young. The creation of a creature Belial doesn’t truly trust, or ever hope to understand. He wants to see what’s in her head, wants to crack her open and find what ticks--but at the same time he wants to keep her at arm’s length. Belial admires her, somewhat, for her true connection to chaos, while at the same time despising her inability to understand what exactly it is that he does. He is order and manipulation, and she is chaos and destruction. Opposing, and yet connected, and though he wants to smack her over the head, he still enjoys seeing what happens when’s she’s wound up and released on the world.
