NH found a hidden temple, a disaster, and the edge of his world
[Antheia’s Longing]
Gardens of Yore
--prompt from @nosebleedclub "pilgrim" (28 July) and "flowers we killed" (26 July)
Calla lily, why do you not call anymore? Do you need to stand where the water flows, when you can cry along with wordless ecstasy?
Tulips, why don't you make yourself an offering? Your colors are diluted with little strokes; blood red paint slides onto my fingers as I try to rescue what beauty exists
through these collapsing walls, holding up these hanging vines which only offer the glories we stole for ourselves.
Roses, why won't you attract us pilgrims, despite your sharpened thorns, despite your labyrinth of pedals?
Magnolias, why don't you stretch your branches across the shattered windows? Your delicate blossoms persist despite the frost we afflicted.
Do you shun us for the sprouts we killed, stripped away for the price of bread, with its pedals boiled too many times over to drink for our own pleasure?
We are not drunk for our own motives; we just want to find beauty within your grasp. The sun dances, though the temperature remains stagnant, mocking our presence with a desire to render all our prayers moot.
World Building Prompt #267
The River Is Alive, Even Under Thick Winter Ice
On the steps of the temple, between peeling columns, the visitor stands. Above, clouds rumble with lingering thunder. She watches for a while, speaking silently to the fading fury, surrounded by petrichor. The forest is never silent after rain, droplets sliding off leaves, moss sighing softly in the breeze, trees stretching their roots.
