I had an opportunity to hold a green-winged macaw yesterday, and learned some cool things about them. Voltaire (previous owners were French) is 8 years, quite young as these birds can live up to 100 years old, with an average life expectancy of 75. The other bird, a scarlet macaw is just one year old. I forgot her name, but her middle name is Lala. You used to be able to purchase these birds (for cheap) from Florida and fly back to California with them. Laws changed and today you can only purchase these birds from certified breeders and stores in California. Of course this caused a price increase for these birds. They are very intelligent and social creatures, and require constant care and affection. Basically you’re taking care of a pet with a mind of a three year old human baby for quite a long... long... time.
