The ABC has announced its cuts to save money after the government cuts to their funding. The ABC has announced:
the axing of several Radio National programs, including regional and agriculture programs
the axing of 7:30 State editions on Friday nights
Lateline to be aired at a set time on ABC News 24 and replayed on ABC1
the scaling back of non-news TV production and TV sports broadcasting
closing five (yes, five) regional radio stations in Gladstone, Port Augusta, Nowra, Morwell and Wagin
the review of the ABC's property portfolio, and the sale of the ABC's Langley Place building in Artarmon in Sydney
400 jobs (10% of the workforce) to be made redundant (believed to be mainly back office jobs)
ABC Managing Director and top execs to forego a payrise
restructure of foreign bureaux
a review into Grandstand (sports coverage)
the close of Adelaide's production unit (the one Christopher Pyne was trying to save)
sale of Outside Broadcast (OB) vans
The Positives (some from the reinvestment of savings):
new regional division
new digital network
no impact on emergency coverage (bushfires, floods, cyclones, etc)
new foreign bureau in Beirut, Lebanon
