My summary: This was basically a love letter to Lena Luthor and I was absolutely living for it. I read it for the first time two days ago and I’m still thinking about how lovely it was. The first chapter’s written like an article that Kara wrote about Lena and someone made really cool art for it, which you can see in chapter 3!

My summary: This gothic AU has been on my “to-read” list for a while and when I finally got around to reading it, I was totally blown away at the details and the thought that was put into it. There are elements of mystery and romance with a teensy tiny bit of horror. Very fitting of a chilly October day.

My summary: Have you ever wondered how Kara would’ve turned out if she didn’t grow up with a loving family and had to live an angry, lonely life on the streets? How Kara would’ve only been able to survive because of her secret identities and constant moving?? How she would eventually land a delivery job that throws her into Lena Luthor’s orbit and never stops thinking about when CADMUS will eventually kill her??? Probably not because that would be really fucking DARK…

My summary: I don’t want to give too much away, but this one was quite the whirlwind. The author’s note says, “Hold on to your seats. It’s going to be bat shit crazy.” One of the best action/adventure supercorp plots! It gets really dark/apocalyptic at one point, but the ending is a happy one.

23) any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing?
Oh man. I don’t really have many “obscure life experiences” I’m super boring and sheltered. I studied theatre in college. When I was in my very early 20′s, I packed all of my worldly belongings into my car and drove by myself halfway across the country to participate in a Shakespeare Performance intensive at a professional theatre company in western MA. That turned into a year and a half working and studying at that company. I made lifelong friends, learned mountains of Shakespearean text, character, and world view; studied voice, movement, technique, stage combat; understudied professional actors, met celebrities, drank heavily, had dinner parties, learned to drink whiskey and good tea. I learned how important found family is when you’re far away from your own. I learned how to bear my soul and harness those emotions for the stage. I suppose those life skills translate effectively into my writing.
Learning Shakespeare is a study in human behavior taken to the extreme. Shakespeare taught me how to build relationships between characters and fellow actors and how impactful one word can have on an entire series of events. I learned to value every syllable of text. I suppose that’s why my dialogue is so important to me too.

I answered this in a previous ask, but I’m enough of a shameless attention whore that I’m willing to do it again.
Kara’s mood darkened in an instant and she couldn’t help but snap a bit. “He doesn’t want to see me. And frankly, Miss Grant, after what you put me through when he left, I can’t imagine you’d want me anywhere near him.” Kara folded her arms over her middle and now it was Cat’s turn to face Kara head on.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Kara’s jaw dropped as her head slowly turned to face an indignant Cat who had set her jaw and narrowed her eyes. It was as if she was daring Kara to call her out on her vindictive retaliation while at the same time expecting her meek, mild, former assistant to back down. But underneath the glasses and cardigans, Kara Danvers was still Supergirl, and the memories of those weeks after Adam, through the Black Mercy, through Red K, through Barry and ‘strictly professional’ all washed over her. She fought back tears and steeled for a fight that had been postponed far too long.
“You have no idea what I’m talking about?” She clenched her fists and took a deep breath.” Kara had told herself long ago she would let that time go. Confronting Cat about it wouldn’t do either of them any good. It was in the past.
But Cat’s utter denial of her revenge lit a fire in Kara that flared quickly. Her teeth ground together and the tension became palpable. “Something you’d like to share with the class, Kara?”
Kara shook her head. Her tears stung hotter, but she was determined to hide them.
“You clearly have something to say to me, so… out with it.”
Kara’s fingernails dug into her knee and before she could stop them, the words came out in a rush.
“So Siobhan was just a really good assistant, was she? And she was hired to help me out when my job became too overwhelming, I suppose? She wasn’t in any way a punishment or your message to me that I was replaceable or that I wasn’t stylish or ambitious enough for you or that you didn’t care about me at all?” Kara wiped angrily at her cheeks and fought to keep from crying openly as the cab pulled up to the hotel. “Message received, Cat. The least you could do is admit what it was.”
Kara leapt from the cab and had pulled all of the luggage from the trunk and headed for the entrance as Cat hastily threw a $50 at the cabbie and followed.
