i am well aware of the absolutely fucked up things eating disorders do to peopleâs brains, and i am sympathetic, but I still think acknowledging publicly that these celebrities are promoting looking emaciated on deathâs door is important. Can you imagine being 13 and seeing this shit? Every celebrity event looks like a thinspo board, itâs awful.
People talk about women's bodies far too much; this is true. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be addressing the elephant in the room of insane weight loss and eds. it isnt fucking normal or healthy
maybe cain wldnt have killed abel if they had video games to healthily channel the violence between siblings. unfortunately back then the only smash brothers they had was smash brothers head in with a rock
this makes me want to cry
First of all, ââŠthey were surrounded on all sides by echoes and images of themselves, in a world where image and object had not yet torn themselves apartâ is one of the most poetic phrasings Iâve ever heard.
Second, hereâs the original source, âWhat the caves are trying to tell usâ by Sam Kriss.
Third, the original opens with:Â Â âEvery so often, I get the urge to drag someone into a cave, and show them something unspeakable.â
I had another point, but it got lost in the artful prose of this article.
I feel like âevery so often, I get the urge to drag someone into a cave and show them something unspeakableâ is something thatâs okay for a paleolithic cave art expert to say, but like, absolutely no one else
Just posting polls to satisfy my own curiosity now.
If you lived in America as a child, answer this poll. If you didn't, you answer the poll in the reblog.
How many homes did you live in before you turned 18 years-old?

watching stuff with kids in it and talking to adults about kids is so fucking weird as someone who works with kids. it is extremely transparent that very few people ever interact with kids, so they just fully forget what they're like and lump them into a broad category of essentially toddlers with different levels of speech capability.
I genuinely believe the stringent age-based separation most of us are experiencing is one of the single most destructive forces in our society. you need to interact with people of all ages regularly or you start to get all "think of the children" and "parent's rights" and fucking "11 year olds can't comprehend basic ratios". or, worse and frankly way more common for leftists, "I hate kids they're so annoying" or "kids are fine I just never want to interact with them if I can help it".
They are people. they have complex thoughts and emotions and knowledge. they are aware of the political goings on in the world, and they think deeply and talk frequently about the issues that impact you (often because those issues impact them as well, but often even when they don't!). they share space with you in your communities, locally and online, whether you're aware of them or think of them as part of your communities or not.
you need to talk to them regularly so you can remember that they are people, the ways in which they are people, the kinds of people they are, the needs they have, and how to advocate for them in a society that increasingly flattens them to varying sizes of toddler. or, if nothing else, so you can share your communities with them instead of expecting them to take what they can get and fit themselves in however makes you, personally, most comfortable.
otherwise you get weird and start talking like a republican.
"That pairing would never be canon" and what of it? I'm only supposed to ship what the church tells me to or something?
Just found out the guy I've been fighting with via email over whether a matter is legal or finance's responsibility is the SAME GUY I've been chatting with in the halls. Oh my fucking god. I'd literally send him an email basically being like, you are incompetent and you are actively trying to evade responsibility, and then FOUR MINUTES later see him in the halls and go "Heyyyy bitch omg how's your wife, how did the vet trip go, when are you going to come to lunch with us on Thursdays omg stop avoiding us" he must think I'm CRAZY
nothing funnier than saying "back in my day" in your 20s as if you aren't the toddler of adults

i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict đ
itâs the fact that work is an every day thing that doesnât sit right with me. like surely not
