How many people have you fist fought?
"Lately? I've been doing almost daily fist fights. Prior to starting to actually train in combat, though, I've gotten in exactly four, and I had the crap kicked out of me every time, though I did theoretically win one of them."
Closed starter for @abdiication!

This... may rank high on his questionable ideas list. Maybe. Probably. There’s just only so much gas-lighting a person can handle before they just have to friggin’ see for themselves.
Five victims so far that have come across his slab - who knows how many not discovered, who’d just vanished - that all had unexplainable bitemarks. He knew everything it wasn’t, and he’d spent plenty of time with molds and print outs to make sure. Not any kind of known dog, not any coyote, not a fox, not a bear, not any kind of cat. The closest was a wolf - canis lupus, specifically - but the pattern of the teeth was all wrong, and there were too many. And the DNA extracted from the wounds had been passed off as degraded and useless, because they’d been unable to attribute a specific species to it. And the claw marks! Not quite feline, ursine, or canine. Nothing but their own thing. It was enough to make any honest medical examiner crazy.
After a bit of deliberation, he’d written that down. The attacks seemed to come from something wolf-like.
Boy had that started a firestorm. He was still smarting over it. Heck, his boss was threatening him with observation, saying ‘the job was making him crack.’ Waldo could relate to the statement. His bosses were sure helping that along, enough so that here he was in the area the attack had happened.
A nature reserve, one he’d had to break into with a ladder over a fence. He wanted a paw print, something. Evidence. Sure, the CPD may have found something, but considering they’d made him change his report he couldn’t be sure whatever was in that evidence box was accurate.
He had what he needed for a plaster mold, several specimen bags, his gloves, tweezers, a motion detector recorder, and a decent camera. He’d take a quick look with the coordinates he had from the initial reports, set up a his recorder, and head back. He could return in a few days for the feed, see if there was anything unusual about.
Waldo was fit, though maybe not fit enough for tromping through a forest with a heavy pack. It wasn’t long before he was breathing heavy, eyes on his GPS as he tried to make sure he was on the right track.
He was so intent he hardly noticed the sudden dip in the undergrowth. His foot came down on a dry root, which snapped under his weight, and with a yelp he was pitched forward down the hill he hadn’t even noticed, thanks to the thick foliage.
Leaves and dirt clung to his form by the time he’d hit the bottom, aching from the slap of branches and cut of brambles.
He opened his eyes, groaning. At least his glasses had managed to stay on his face.
“Way to go, dummy,” he muttered, pushing to his hands and knees, completely oblivious to the massive shape coming upwind towards him.
