Abdul Abdullah, Most Kind, 2016 - a series of ceramic trophies, like those awarded at school athletics carnivals, are inscribed with achievements like 'Most Strong' and 'Most Fair' - titles taken from the 99 names of Allah from the Quran. The artist reflects on the economy of faith, which rewards those who worship in larger groups rather than in solitary contemplation, as well as the tension between media depictions of Muslims and their lived experience. Showing in #TheFraudComplex presented as part of the @next_wave Festival 2016 at @westspace #abdulabdullah #nwf16 #westspace #melbourne #art #contemporaryart [Next Wave lost their operational funding from the #AustraliaCouncil in the last funding round. This festival is vital to supporting emerging and early career artists, writers, performers and curators.
